  • Comments: Another great and well run Columbia Tri. Assoc. race. This will be the same venue and organization that I will be doing the Chesapeakeman Aqua-Bike race in September (just double the swim and bike distances I did at this race), so it is good to get some more experience in the conditions. The day was perfect for racing and I couldn't have asked for much better of an overall performance with where I am in my training. Kudos to everyone that participated. I think more people set PR's than in any other race I've been in because of the great conditions and flat/fast course.

  • Comments: overall a great experience. well organized and run. the course was as easy as this distance could be. i just didn't pace properly or prepare well enough. food was awesome and all the volunteers were great... without their efforts, we couldn't have raced!

  • Comments: I know that I should be happier about my results than I am. I crushed my previous best HIM time by over 30 minutes. I broke 6 hours. I broke 20mph on the bike. But, I feel like I let my coach down because he said I should do 5:45. Maybe it was a stretch goal and his way of motivating me to push beyond what my own expectations were. But still, I feel like I came up short. Plus, I raced in the uber-competitive M30-34 AG instead of in the Clydesdale category b/c I didn't want to be going off last and coming in when there was no one in the park to cheer me on. However, after all the improvements I've made and all the training I've pushed through, realizing that I'm still just a BOP age grouper is tough to swallow. Maybe, if my run nutrition had been a little better, I could have broken 5:45. But its just something I can take with me and improve upon for my next race. And that next race is going to be even MORE brutal. That next race is my first IronMan. :gulp:

  • Comments: One of my favorite races. It attracts both top pros and top amateurs and the community and volunteers are great. I just wish Vigo would figure out how to run an award ceremony! GOOD: - great venue - plenty of volunteers - great field of competitors.. a true measuring stick - free post-race massage - plenty of port-o-potties at venue and on course OK: - Food BAD: - Vigo's ability to run an award ceremony..took 90min+...WTF?!?!? - Traffic leaving...2000+ athletes plus shore traffic..ugh!

  • Comments: Great race. Didn't hit much of the expo but what I saw was good. Good aid stations and volenteers and the community gets behind this race 1000% from what I could see. Great job managing the # of people (8 min between waves and 12-14 waves) First class race and a great pro field to boot. Chris Legh showed alot of class by finish a race when things were going bad instead of dropping out. Wish I could have recognized him when he passed by me. Natasha Badman is awesome and is so friggin cool. Great race definitely worth the trip.

  • Comments: I've only been doing triathlons for 13 months, but it is by far the best thing I could have done with my life. It has brought a great boyfriend and four other great friends into my life. Eagleman is just one more memory I can place on my shelf, along with my medals and hardware (including the ugly Eagle plate that we won here!) This race was most special, because I got to share it with those 5 special people.

  • Comments: This is a great race! I really liked the run course. You get to see alot of people and lots of different things to look at. Though I still think the music in the cemetary was a bit weird.

  • Comments: Today conditions were ideal. Light wind, mild temperatures, cloudy skies, and ebb tide, that really pushed us downriver on the homeward leg of the swim. There was a harmonic convergence of atmospheric conditions. I may have better races, I may try harder, I may feel more satisfied after a race, but I will never post another 4:41:51. And that's okay. Regardless of the time, I was immensely satisfied with my performance. I was amazed with my comfort level. There were times when it hurt, but I definitely hurt worse in my HIMs last year. Today was other-worldly. 4:42 - that's just silly. Got away with one: I kept tempering my expectations on the bike by telling myself, "Don't get too excited, you could flat." Well, after the race I realized that I forgot to stick the valve adapter for the disc wheel in my saddle bag. A flat would have meant a DNF. What really got me scratching my head was my AG place. Last year I was 32nd with a 5:05. This year, 41st when I was 23 min faster. Oh, yes,

  • Comments: Here's my best memories from the day: *Seeing all the pros running into T1 - especially Ficker/Legh/Bell/Badmann *The huge white swim start bouys with the huge Eagleman logos *Lots of people cheering at the bike dismount *Two volunteers on start and finish of the run cheering me on like crazy b/c I was wearing a CMS jersey *Sean Reinke on the run course by himself, beer in hand, cheering like a madman *Hitting my stride around mile 5 on the run *Seeing Glenn and Shelly on the run *Passing a few runners in the last miles that had most certainly passed me on the bike. *A girl sitting on the hood of a white car a half mile from the finish cheering for every single person that went by. *Seeing and hearing the finish line in the last mile and making the last two turns.

  • Comments: Great race, great effort. Knocking 50 smonething minutes from last years time I could be happier. Training is going really well for me, I think a full IM in 08 or 09 is well within my grasp.

  • Comments: They've been doing this race for a while and they have everything down pat. Also, a lot of people do this race over and over and they know what to do. It attracts a lot of the top notch triathletes on the East Coast and is very competitive. I thought the swag was lacking for an expensive race and didn't think the post race stuff was very good. It was hard to find something to drink.

  • Comments: race was great as always and the conditions were even good this year. the one problem is that we stayed for the awards which were the most unorganized event i have ever seen. they started an hour late and went for several hours!!!! vigo (race director) needs to work that out. the traffic home from there is always terrible too.

  • Comments: Everything about this race from my training to the trip home was more than I ever dreamed it would be. Could not have asked for a better experience. When we found out all the hotels within 30 miles were booked, I was worried, but Homestay was amazing. They set us up with a host family and that was huge. The family was perfect, helped out in every way and so friendly. Love the fact they lived 2 blocks from the race, so I was able to walk down the morning of. They gave us the run of the house and let me stay and recover after the race. Gave me and my wife use of their pool and fed us dinner the night before the race. Even offered to take us sailing the day before. Homestay is such a life saver and the host family was perfect. Don't hesitate to use this program, we learned so much about the area and picked up advice about what the weather is generally like, something I would not have gotten if we had stayed in a hotel.

  • Comments: Again, the real all-star of this race is my wife. From 4:00am until our departure from the race at 3:00pm...for her to manage our 4 year old and 17 month old all that time...she's amazing. It was a day I'll never forget. I'm still sore, but I've been worse. About 4 years ago, I wasn't doing any training let alone exercise of any kind. I went out and busted out a 22 minute 5k on a really humid day and I could NOT walk up and down steps. I literally had to hold onto a rail and go 1 step at a time. My preparation for the race has paid off. I'm sore but it's nothing terrible. In a few days I'm sure I'll be looking forward to my next challenge!!!
