  • Comments: This was my first Ironman branded event (and my 3rd tri ever) so I don't have much to compare it to. It seemed to be well run. One pet peeve was that our goody bag was a "cinch back pack". The bag itself is fine but it is labeled with Steelhead 70.3, not Racine. I thought that was strange (uncool).

  • Comments: On January 1st, 2012 I weighed 230 lbs (I'm 5'8"). and needed a goal. The Racine Half Ironman kept me focused and helped me drop 20 lbs. I'm proud that I got back into shape and that my family was able to cheer me on! Now that I know what it takes to finish, I want to come back next year weighing 180 lbs. (not 210) and see what I can do. I don't want to say that I underestimated this race, but until you do it, you just don't know what you don't know. I also should have done a sprint and Olympic first, but honestly, I wanted/needed this challenge to get me going. Overall, it was a great experience! I met some great BT'ers and really enjoyed myself. See you next year!

  • Comments: Two water stations on the run had run out of ice. I was really looking forward to the cold sponges but they were basically luke warm. :( The zoo? They shouldn't even advertise this in the race description. I wanted to see monkeys! Overall I was happy with this race, North Beach is amazing and Downtown Racine is adorable! I would do this race again.

  • Comments: I love this race, ever since it was Spirit of Racine. Great course. Wish some of the roads weren't so bumpy on the bike, but what can you do? I like the out/back double loop run--you have a good idea where you are in regards to everyone else. I love passing all those people on the run that passed me on the bike!

  • Comments: In the weeks leading up to the race you obsess about times and goals, the what if's, weather, lake temps, wind- my God like a million things to obsess about! When the day is upon you none of that matters. You will stand on the beach ready to swim whether it's cold or choppy, bike whether it's windy or hilly and run whether it's raining or steamy hot! The only thing that matters is the training and nutrition- The engine and the gas! This years race was a wonderful experience for me from last years but also taught me alot. Last year I was in such a late wave that I was virtually alone on the bike segment and shuffled through the run with just a few others. I was so sad that I had trained so hard for this?? To be out there alone with very few people left to cheer let alone run along side you and help you keep going, camera men all gone, they were even wrapping up the ironman signs. I finished in the awful heat and thought about it for a year and how I could improve. This year I changed

  • Comments: Ironman put on a great race. Lots of volunteers, aid station, and Racine supporters along the course. The town was clean, and easy to navigate, and the people were friendly. Although the race got tough at the end, it's a day I'll never regret. It was the culmination of 6 months of working my ass off to lose 95 pounds, and it was concrete evidence that I had regained my life and health!!

  • Comments: Overall I would say I had a great first HIM experience. Thank you so much to all the volunteers (including K!) for making the day so much easier than it could have been. And thanks to all the BT folks on the Racine thread for all of your advice and well wishes

  • Comments: Good race and the city really embraces the participants, especially on the run. Could have used some better food at the finish, but I was not really ready to eat anyway.

  • Comments: Despite the 12 oz of V8 for breakfast, 24 oz before the swim, five bottles of fluid on the bike, countess cups of fluids on the run, two bottles of water and a can of Sprite after finishing and more fluids in the hotel room it was a little over three hours before I hobbled into the bathroom. I guess I didn’t realize how badly dehydrated I was, guess I should have asked for an IV at the med tent!

  • Comments: Volunteers were amazing juts like last year and the people cheering us on out on the highway were great. Got a kicked out of one of the signs with about 2 miles left on the bike that said "Unhitch the Plow" ha ha. Definitely tried to have more fun with the volunteers and tried joking and high-fiving them. An amazing race with perfect race conditions. Also, I thought that the triathlete village was much better this year than last year. Awesome job people of Racine and all the other athletes out there!

  • Comments: the support from the community and volunteers was top notch. I have never had so many people cheering us on and helped keep your mind in the game and finish the race. I thought the race venue was nice too/ great beach with clear water is a big plus.

  • Comments: The only reason I rate this one bad is the bike course. It's just terrible! If they smoothed out the streets coming in and out of downtown it wouldn't be bad. I could even deal with the Bermuda Triangle winds out there if the roads weren't so terrible.

  • Comments: Great first HIM experience. I think I'd do it again, though we'll reconnect on that in a few days/weeks. Very proud and happy for finishing as well as I did. Expo was a bit lacking, but everything else felt very personalized. Racine was very welcoming and accommodating. Lots of volunteers.
