  • Comments: The race itself was good. It is a very small event, but it was very organized and there were a lot of volunteers. Obviously, they can't control the weather, but it was not a safe day. The volunteers were great, and I was so thankful that they braved the storm to hand us water, and still managed to cheer! Despite having a bad race, I still managed 4th place female and came home with a pay check. It wasn't the place I wanted going into the race, but by the end, I was so happy to just survive, that 4th was great!!

  • Comments: I can't complain with the way this event is put on. Tons of racers, good volunteers and a good course. I'm still a little disappointed with the effort. To slow more that 20 minutes from the last one is disappointing for sure. But I learned a valuable lesson about racing in poor conditions and I even managed to have more fun than usual out there. Sure, PRs and AG awards are nice, but those can't happen every time, at least for me. I still feel like I got a lot out of this race and in the end, that's not a bad thing.

  • Comments: This was a really well run race. I can't imagine a better first half-iron experience, despite the less than ideal weather conditions. Thanks so much to all the volunteers for the encouragement on the course. That always means a lot. I was hoping to meet some fellow BTers at the race, but I didn't really bump into anyone I recognized. Stop me and say hi in the future if you see me!

  • Comments: Overall, I wanted to survive the day and finish, which I did! Hidden in the back of my head was a goal to finish in under 7 hours, which would have been doable in better weather I think. Overall, I'm quite satisfied!

  • Comments: First of all, this was my first triathlon. I am foolish, but also had planned for a sprint and Oly earlier this year, but life happens and both got scrubbed for various reasons. I decided to go ahead anyways with the HIM and really enjoyed it. The people in Iowa are very special. The race was well run and although corn fields are not the most exciting scenery, the park and lake are beautiful. You can tell the RD really wants to put on an event people enjoy and I was impressed. I enjoyed the race so much except miles 8-11 and would consider doing it again next year if my wife allows. Finally, this place (BT) rocks, it really is a friendly one-stop place for triathletes and I am glad that I found it.

  • Comments: Well, my first HIM is in the books and despite finishing a little poorer than I had hoped I am still pleased. This is only my fourth triathlon ever and I have alot to learn still. It's funny during the run I was kept thinking I would never do a race of this distance again yet that evening over dinner I was telling my girlfriend all the things I would do differently for the next one. So I either have a short memory, a masochistic enjoyment of pain, an unrelenting strive to be better, or a wicked combination of the aforementioned traits that's going to keep me coming back for more for quite awhile.

  • Comments: great race, I listed my performance physically and mentally as 4 not because I performed to a level 4 but because due to my poor conditioning the physical and mental effort that I had to give to get to the end in the time I did was a 4

  • Comments: Would have taken 3rd in my AG today, but since I started in the Elite Wave I wasn't eligible to podium (3rd AG podium lost this year due to Elite starts). AG rankings for each split were determined by looking at the M45-49 results and seeing where my splits ranked. The Big Pig is a class event. Great course with tons of volunteers. The post-race food kicked Spirit of Racine's ass...pizza, spaghetti, fruit, cookies, yogurt, soda. Highly recommend this race.

  • Comments: Despite my dissapointing run overall I was happy with the race. I met my first goal and I finished. I came close to my 2nd of finishing under 6:30. Not quite, but close. I figured out what I need to work on over the winter. I also realized that I love the idea of longer races. I will go to volunteer for Ironman Wisconsin and I will sign up for Ironman WI 2008 the next day. I have a lot or work to do, but I have 1 year and 3 weeks to do it. Thanks for reading my report.

  • Comments: Not sure who recommended this, but I'm glad they did. It was very well run. During my run, I got a chance to see what the back of the packers experience, and even at my 12+ pace, the volunteers were still there supporting me at every station. Even the elites who were already driving home would offer encouragement as they left the state park. I'll come back as often as possible.

  • Comments: Blew the doors off of my early season goal of 5:30:00. I definitely left with hope that I still have the ability to improve and that I have a chance of actually sneaking up on that 5 hour mark in the future. It felt good to work towards this goal for the last year. It definitely helped to have some experienced people to help with planning

  • Comments: This race is very well organized with tons of happy volunteers. I really can't complain about my time--I was expecting 6:30 but wanted between 6 and 6:30, secretly hoping there would be some way I could be really close to 6. But I felt really good at the end (about as sore as racing a half marathon!) and really want to do this race again. I really like the HIM distance.

  • Comments: The race director and volunteers were great. There wasn't an intersection throughout the course that wasn't controlled. Water and food at every mile on the run and every 10 on the bike. This event could not have been ran any better.

  • Comments: I would highly recommend this race. Swim and transitions were held in a state park that was clean and had a lot of room. Parking was adequate. Volunteers were great. Great food (spaghetti, pizza, fruit, yogurt, bread, fluids, etc.). This is part of the Midwest Multi-sport Series -which after each event Gear West gives away a QR tri bike, QR wetsuit, tri bag with running shoes, bike shoes, helmet, other stuff inside the bag. So, everyone sticks around for the door prizes at the end. I missed the bike giveway by one digit. I will return for this race in 2006 and will likely do the sprint distance earlier in the summer at the same venue which is also part of this race series. High marks all around on this race!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Comments: I love that this race is close to home. They should put up another tent though at the end of the race to sit under. It felt so hot in the sun afterward.
