  • Comments: I know the PG is a bit lower budget (and therefore lower cost) than the big ones like Rev3, but the finish was a bit disappointing - no water, no towel, no medal, no arch, no real chute - nothing. The volunteers were enthusiastic, but on the bike they just waved flags back and forth instead of providing direction guidance. Regardless, I am sure I would have enjoyed it more if I was better prepared. Its a tough course and it kicked my butt.

  • Comments: SO like I said - I made the decision to continue my long course training and suffer the consequences here. I have no doubt I made the right call - but I still would have liked to finish a little faster :)

  • Comments: This race was really about the swim for me. I was very nervous about being able to do the distance. I think i did really well. So next time i can focus more on improving T1, Nutrition/Hydration and the run.

  • Comments: After ChesapeakeMan 2010, my endurance ass was kicked proper, and I decided that I needed to go back to the basics. So I took a few months to just dick around: short runs, leisurely swims, and no time on the bike. In February, I began lifting, following the Starting Strength novice program. I worked my way up to a 405# squat by the middle of May, all the while doing one session/week in each tri discipline. Three weeks prior to Griskus, I put weights on hold and picked up the endurance training a bit (2x/week run & bike, 2-3x/week swim). My endurance was low, but my leg strength is unbelievable, and my core is stronger than ever. Forget core workouts, I'm squatting for the rest of my life!!! I knew that I'd have to take it easy if I wanted to even finish, and still it was tough to rein myself in; first, when the second wave's fast swimmers started blowing past me, and then on some of the climbs that I usually dominate. But it all paid off when I put on the shoes and started "running".

  • Comments: Thanks to all the volunteers! they were abundant, they were awesome, and they were appreciated. Also, it was cool to race with the level of competition...Griskus was the 2010 USAT Northeast Oly championship race.

  • Comments: I'm not a hill climber on the bike. Didn't stay around for post race activities, but it looked like a blast. Amazing! I was middle of the pack for the swim and the bike, but lost ground on the run. My best placing in my age group was on the swim! What the junk?!?

  • Comments: The race is a terrific venue and the course is great. A very challenging bike course and a cool run course with the one hill you go down and up on both laps. Awesome after race party with beer, hamburgers, watermelon, hotdogs, salad, iced tea etc.

  • Comments: Great race - I was pumped to have finished my first Oly. Was never on my schedule. Only found it after the DNF the week before. I overheard someone say "the only flat part of the course was the swim." So although I woudl have liked have had better times, I'm still happy I did okay given the course, and my conservative approach. I would definitly do this race again to see how much better I could do. Plus, it will make me train on hills to be ready. :) Whoo-hoo!

  • Comments: It was a good local race that brought together a lot of racers for the regional area. The course is difficult but Iwould have enjoyed it more if I didnt blow up on the bike. I would def do this race again and would recomend it to others.
