  • Comments: I was really pleasantly surprised with this event. Based on other race reports, I was bracing myself. Instead, I had a great time, and the race was organized (enough). There was not as much of a volunteer presence as other races, but it was certainly sufficient. The course was amazing, and everyone was really friendly. The water stations on the run seemed under staffed, but they had water, the kids were just having trouble getting it out fast enough. I do this for fun, I am really not that competitive, so maybe the water and lack of volunteers would bother me if I was more serious, but I had a great, fun race.

  • Comments: Race was terribly organized. I don't even have an official time because they mixed up all the timing chips and race numbers. For $125, I would at least like my name to be somewhere in the results; it's not. Would not do this one again.

  • Comments: I’m all for doing small, local events, but there’s a difference between “no frills” and a total disregard for safety. It’s mind-boggling to me that the Race Director would sign off on a race where you have 800 triathletes, plus duathletes and aquabikers all squeezed onto a race course that was less than five miles in length. There is NO security at all in the transition areas. I could have walked out of there with any bike I wanted and no one would have noticed or said boo. At a time when every other event is trying to minimize their environmental impact, the race has aid station volunteers pouring water from plastic bottles into plastic cups. Unbeleivable. Also, there's no sports drink on the run course, which is pretty amazing, considering it's a largely unshaded run in late June. The only reason this race gets a 2 and not a 1 is that the venue is sort of nice and it's fairly convenient to NYC. But even with that, there's no way I'll do this race again. There really isn't

  • Comments: Good race to do, great early season race...flat...no real surprises...tough with loops/waves and crossing others but overall good race and waves set in decent order.

  • Comments: This is the 4th year I have done this race. They updated the run course which was much better than the past three years. I just did this to get another race in. I know if I work hard on the bike I can compete for an AG slot. This is a great race for first timers.

  • Comments: For the number of people at this race, it is fairly well run and newbie friendly. The road is rough and can get crowded in later waves and it isn't the most scenic race but they make the best of what they have to work with. I doubt any of them will see this but kudos to the TriLatino race team, who were out in full force, to both run and volunteer at the race. Their enthusiasm defintely added to the race and brought a smile to many of our faces.

  • Comments: In my opinion, a pretty lame race. The swim was canceled because of the rain (understandable) and replaced with a run. The race started 20 minutes late. I can't understand why, in one of the nicest parts of Long Island, the run has to be mostly around a parking lot. No mile markers at all on the run. All of the three water stations were bunched together in the first third of the course (or so, hard to tell for sure because of the lack of mile markers), then nothing. The bike road conditions were poor. Again, the area is very pretty but the bike course takes you through pot hole ridden office park/industrial streets. Post-race just a crowd of people, no real event feel. Boxes of bagels and bananas, grab one and have a nice day. Didn't seem very organized or well run compared to other races I've attended or participated in. There are better races to do on Long Island. I'll just skip this one from now on.

  • Comments: Overall the race needs to be planned better, even the swim. Looked alot longer than 1/2 mile. Not enough food afterward and overall course layout wasn't great. Wider paths for running (on the road) and people should not be allowed in transition area or on course while the race is on

  • Comments: The post race spread is not the greatest, but overall its not a bad event. It's close by and relataively inexpensive. I took almost 14 minutes off of my time from last year, and realize that Ironclad wa just a bad day for me.

  • Comments: To be honest, this is a short distance triathlon. There were many people with mountain bikes and beach cruisers; many people were doing their first triathlon; there were lots and lots of friends and family around -- this event is more of a small social affair than a race. Which is a good thing. Many people commented that in years past there was much more support. This year a glaring problem was zero port-a-potties, zero sports drinks during or after the race, and -- aside from bagels -- zero food. If this were an Olympic distance or greater, it would have been an utter fiasco. Despite the crowded bike and run, lack of race support, pot-hole ridden roads, it wasn't that bad a race. I saw lots of my tri friends and (as usual) made some new ones. I think the social aspect of this race, surrounded by friends, family, kids and the fact that it's a short race, make it a lot of fun despite the glaring fact the Race Directors dropped the ball this year.

  • Comments: This is a decent local race. A fair value for the money. A few things could have been better organized--for example, they had no portapotties. Relying on two small bathhouses' bathrooms for 750+ triathletes and their families is just silly. And not having any gatorade or sports drink on the run course for a triathlon in June is asking for trouble IMO. I'd do this race again, though.

  • Comments: I really didn't expect much due to lack of sleep leading up to the race, but all that went out the window when I hit the water. Just felt great. Outstanding race for me. My goal time was 1:30 and I just blew it out of the water. I just want to check the Garmin to verify distances. I think the bike was about right, but the run may have been 1/4 mile short. Not to minimize my performance, since I'm real happy with it, but to know for sure.

  • Comments: my first sprint! so much fun. overall, much easier than i thought. exceeded my goals even, which now that i know what a sprint feels like, should probably have been harder. transitions really fast – i’m sure helped by the smaller scale (774 instead of 3500) and easy conditions: flat, nearly currentless swim, no goggle problems, overcast, (no sunblock), less sweat, less nutrition. i’m sure i could have transitioned faster even. next time.

  • Comments: I think they register too many people for the race. The bike course was jammed up on my second loop and it killed my speed. A smaller field would make for a better overall event.

  • Comments: I'd do this race again. For a large race, it was pretty organized and not as crowded as I feared. They said they capped registration at 900, yet overall results only show 694. Could it be that 200 people did not show up? I want to thank all my jockstrappers: Chris, Danny, Kevin, Sis, Chris, Cyle, Cole, Poppy and LUCAS...you guys all rock!!! You can tell Mary (sis) is itching to get back out there again, she just doesn't want to injure her back again. Hope to see you out there soon Sis!

  • Comments: This was my very first Tri, so even though I believe that I could have done better I am very pleased. My realistic goal was 1:45 and my dream goal was 1:40 so I am very happy with my 1:36:42. I am thrilled that I was able to do the swim fairly easily, and I now have more confidence to push myself harder in my next race. My biggest problem is now I can't wait until my next race. Also, I am very grateful to everyone here on BT. I do all my training on my own, and you have all helped my learn a lot, and have kept me motivated. Thanks again everyone.
