  • Comments: Overall I'm pretty happy with the time for my 1st time - and it always feels great to accomplish something you set your mind to. After doing 1 I definitely want to do more in the future. I have a lot of areas to make easy improvements on and I want to get under 3 hours.

  • Comments: Neil from Piranha did a solid job of making sure there was plenty water stops on the run with cold towels and even some coke. Volunteers were helpful and even with the conditions, the race was well organized.

  • Comments: I was pretty disappointed when I finally could see the time clock and realized I was a full 5 minutes slower than I hoped to be. The bike is my real limiter and I just don't know how to fix it. In fact, I felt pretty good all day about the race in general. My swim felt real good, the bike felt good, but just wasn't as good as I had hoped (there seemed to be more wind) and I messed up my nutrition. The run was okay and I thought I had done better than last year (I didn't). After seeing the results online, the wind has gone completely out of my sails. I'm last in my age group! And by 30 minutes - not even close to anyone else! I'm good at transitions though. I came in 4th and 3rd in my age group for transitions (gotta find that silver lining somewhere.....). Also, I think this was the hottest weather (and it wasn't THAT hot) that I've ever raced in. New experience for me (always rain and/or cold, overcast). Oh well, feeling deflated....

  • Comments: Even though it stormed and poured the whole time and we didn't swim (I was really looking forward to the swim) I enjoyed the race. Felt I did well on the bike and suprised myself on the run(s). I have never run 7.5 miles at one time (without stopping). It was especially good that it was cooler and it rained. I think that helped a lot. I was shocked that I won 3rd place - didn't even hear my name and missed my place on the podium. They let me take it later and got my picture (but without the others).

  • Comments: This was going to be my first triathlon but it became my first duathlon. I was disappointed the swim was cancelled but I understood given the poor conditions. I had a blast. I am looking forward to the next one in Northeast in August.

  • Comments: Very much enjoyed the whole race and I learned a lot. I'd read a lot of message board posts leading up to the season but they don't really prepare you for what the race is actually like. I'm glad I got the first one out of the way, now I can better prepare for future races.

  • Comments: There were gnats in the park where this was held that were absolutely out of control. Luckily there weren't an issue during the race but I ate a few hundred easily afterwards and before.

  • Comments: No packet pick up on Friday was a bummer, it added additional stress on race morning to get everything ready in transition. The bike aid station was at mile 23, WHY?? That needs to be changed. The post race food was bad. A sandwich about 3 inches long, fruit snacks, and a coke. Not that much enjoyable.

  • Comments: Not the best food at the end of the race variety wise. But very nice volunteers. A local race through a lot of neighborhoods with some residents outside watching/cheering. I love the local feel of races like this that get the community involved and don't just race through parks and deserted areas.

  • Comments: Good enough for 3rd in my division. But not thrilled with my performance. I have no one to blame but me for that (training has been off what it was last year). Here's a comparison of the two races: Swim t1 bike t2 run total 30:09 1:33 1:42:21 1:11 41:34 2:56:46 32:34 1:30 1:30:07 1:08 44:36 2:49:53 Note that this year was MUCH hotter and more humid, whereas last year was nearly ideal. Last year I flatted on the beginning of the bike.

  • Comments: This was my first Olympic race, noticed there are more seriously trained athletes at this distance. I like the distance and was overall happy with my results due to the personal issues I had to overcome. Just starting the race was tough. Big thanks to the support from my family and friends.

  • Comments: I would have liked USAT officials present (there was no bike inspection and no officials on the course), since I paid for a one day membership. I would have also loved for there to be bike support... so that I could have been pumped up to 120 at some point. I was very satisfied with the race... providence hindered my performance, but was largely out of my control and not something I will let get me down. The race itself really is nicely organized and well run. I will have redemption on this course next year... my foe will not be Jesse, but the race itself. And I assure you I'll be careful riding over that bridge... Lastly, thanks to everyone reading this report, as many of you have been such an encouragement and so supportive while I worked for this. I would not have been nearly as physically or mentally prepared without BT. I know this... in the past as I have crossed the finish line at half and full marathons, I have half-way-jokingly, half-way-seriously said I would never

  • Comments: Although disappointed about the swim being cancelled, there were improvements to the course, which made the bike better and safer. I would like to see some honest measurements on the run course. There were just a little over half of the number of athletes participating this year compared to last year. So, while I'm happy about my lighthouse(trophy) I wonder how the swim (my weakest event) would have changed things, and I also know that it's a question of who shows up.
