  • Comments: 14th year for this "championship"/"express" combo. They've added an aquabike and a duathlon recently. There's a 5k/10k and a parent/child division in the tri. Tri-Events has been putting on "grass roots" style tri's at Bonelli Park for years and I always enjoy them.

  • Comments: I would not recommend this race to anyone - especially a beginner - unless a couple of changes are made. I wish I could give this race a 5. The course is beautiful, the organization is great, the water is warm, and - best of all - there were LOTS of water stations on the run segment, which was much appreciated on a warm day. The people manning the water stations were great, too. But I can't recommend this race to anyone (and won't do it again) unless 2 things change: 1. SWIM POORLY MARKED. The swim course markers are far too small. The swim turns are marked by small yellow pyramids about 1/2 the size of normal turn pyramids. I don't think the race organizers understand the impact this has, or they would have changed this by now. (How expensive can a couple of decent-size pyramid buoys be???) I was expecting a swim time improvement; instead it was one of my worst swims ever. The first leg was OK because the swimmers hadn't spread out and you could keep on course by

  • Comments: My first Bonelli. I had fun and it is a good course. The lake is suspect, a mud hole. Swimming through the weeds was interesting. The website had the park opening at 6, they opened at 6:30, some people were pissed, I just relaxed in my truck. They needed better parking assistance, cars were guessing where to go to park. And better course management, I saw several young fellas NOT direct a lady runner, she was pissed as she ran off course and they yelled at her. There were several areas on the run where I guessed, there were some areas I was the only one on the course. The bike course was well done w/ volunteers and police, I had ridden it prior and knew what to expect. No food or drink I could find after the race, ended up getting a half burrito an hour later. It would be nice to have enough for the AG, not just for those that finish fast. Overall, a fun race that I will do again.

  • Comments: I would not recommend this race. It seemed very unorganized from the very beginning. The swim course was poorly marked (small orange buoys instead of easily seen ones). Bike course organization was adequate, with signage. Run course was poorly supported. Water (only) at aid stations in 100+ temps isn't just an inconvenience, it's unsafe, especially with Hammer as an event sponsor. The finish area didn't offer anything else. No electrolytes, only water and energy drinks.

  • Comments: This is a friendly local event on a relatively challenging course (esp. given the number of first-timers). Amenities were slimmer this year than last...esp. lacking in food post-race (last year a Scout troop was selling burgers and hot dogs...this year only bananas, orange slices, and--I guess--PB&J).

  • Comments: Not happy with no water at last 2 stops. I understand that I and several others were the last ones on the course and that stops may not be manned that late into a race, but water should be left behind if it is advertised the race will have water stops.. Other than that, race was good and course was challenging for me. I will do it again next year but will be better prepared for it mentally and physically.. I learned something about myself from this race as I do from all that I participate in. I struggled but I finiahed it and didn't give up.

  • Comments: This was a good, low-key, fairly informal event, in a nice country-like setting. If only we had a nice big, undeveloped piece of open land like this near the beach in the South Bay...

  • Comments: This is a splendidly low-key race. Its a fantastic course. Its pretty well organized. Sure there are peculiar things about it, no pre race day packet pick up, no transition splits and, most irkingly, no body markings. (I love body markings) Minor tri infractions. I recommend this race venue to all. They have four or five races here annually and its a great way to measure your progress over or across the seasons. The people are great and all of the "big bones" aspects of this race are well tended to. Just watch out for killer geese.

  • Comments: I love Bonelli - no it isn't ever really on time, yes there was a problem where we had to wait to get into the park. Perhaps there could be moe aid stations etc but I don't know there is something just quite downhome about Bonelli - it is not a slick production race but more of a passion - put on by people who love the sport.

  • Comments: The race was phenomenally organized. Everything ran perfectly. Race staff and volunteers were plentiful, supportive, and super friendly. Cops were awesome and bike course was very secure. Lots of cheerers with cowbells! I'd never heard them on a course before! Tons of water stops on the run (badly needed), which was very well marked out (I frequently get lost on run courses). The schwag was good, and the sweetest woman saved a bunch of freebies to hand out to last-place finishers. My only thoughts for improvement: if possible, a swim exit without mud, and a water station on the bike course; mile markers on the run (there were lots of signs, so it would have been easy to Sharpie a number on five or six of them); Gatorade on the run course (expensive, but the heat was really bad and ppl. were cramping--just plain salt packets OK, too).

  • Comments: I don't feel I can give this race a low rating, as I think the problems were my own and had little to do with the actual race. The race directors were really nice about the fact that we were completely incompetent athletes, and they still made us feel good about crossing the finish line with hugs and cheers and congratulations. All personnel did a great job of directing traffic and giving us the right-of-way whenever cars were present. The water stations on the run still had some water when we got there (though I really could have used some water on the bike). I would NOT recommend that beginners or people who are "casual triathletes" do this race, unless they happen to be really good cyclists who aren't bothered by the hills. • Comments: This race was one of the hardest things I have ever done. I think I underestimated it. I have been training for less then a year and thought I would have no trouble but that was not the case. I am excited to do another now that I know what to expect and what I need to work on. I am proud of myself for finishing! A couple of comments about the race. First of all there was no food or drink for the finishers and the goodie-bag was not very good. These are petty comments but worth mentioning

  • Comments: Was dissapointed there were not any drinks at the end of the race. Fortunatly there were plents of drinking faucets. Was also a little dissapointed some of the vendors were already leaving so soon after the race as I would have liked to have checked some of them out but seemed like they were already packing up when I got done with the race.
