Subject: Where do you buy a really nice jewelry box?

I was digging through my jewelry last night because I need it for something this week...and I realized that it's in three separate boxes...one of which is a SHOEBOX.  Yes, a cardboard piece of crud that my running shoes came in.  Another is just a wooden box, and the third is a VERY old jewelry box that I think belonged to my great aunt and I thought it was really cool when I was a kid but now I really it's kinda chintzy and not really worthy of my few piece of nice jewelry.

So...where does one buy a jewelry box these days?  It's not something I see in the stores often and when I do see them in the stores they are usually kinda cheap and chintzy.  I want a really nice "will stand the test of time" jewelry box.  I keep picturing something in my head along the lines of a box you'd keep your silver in...wooden, sturdy...something I buy once and have for the rest of my life.

And I've no idea where to shop...a quick google search yielded literally dozens of "jewelry box warehouses" but somehow I doubt they are selling the quality I am looking for.

Help me, BT!

I recommend you look for a local woodworker. There are a lot of woodworkers that make custom boxes. Often they sell them at fairs and consignment stores. I am a woodworker, but don't make such boxes. Many of my firends in NC do. Hope this helps.

There are many wood workers that could probably build you exactly what you wanted.  I have no idea the design you have in mind.  But, there are wall mount, stands, boxes, etc...  This was the first lookup on a google search.  Some great pieces at Amish Furniture stores also.

my husband bought me a jewelry box at things remembered for a wedding gift and it's really well made -- but the little engraving plate on top pops up!  i put a bible on it for a year and it still pops up!

Oh, THIS ONE is along the lines of what I had pictured in my head I think.  And it's those personal recommendations that it's "well made" that I was really looking for.  I know there were thousands I could buy via google, but without being able to lay your hands on it how do you know if it's sturdy or not?

Some of the bed bath and beyond ones look promising too...still browsing.  And still open to more recommendations!

You should know better. A bible rarely inhibits ascension.

my mall has a things remembered store, don't you have one near you?  they have all of the jewelry boxes there.  it's a bigger one than i have, but similar style, and i would certainly recommend it as sturdy.

If you're a Costco member, they've also got some options that you might like...

http://www.costco.com/Mele-%2526-Co.-Regan-Upright-Jewelry-Box-in-Java-Finish.product.100013071.html   This one I like because it has the taller side flaps for necklaces

http://www.costco.com/Dynasty-Locking-Jewelry-Chest.product.100010244.html  This one I liked because all of the compartments also lock if that's something you're at all concerned about.
