Veteran 251![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official ThreadI plan to do Louisville also after a failed attempt to register online for IMAZ. This will be my second IM. I am not overly concerned with the heat because I live in South Louisiana but what does concern me is the hills. I train on the flattest terrain imaginable so I will have to figure out a way to simulate hills or drive 2.5 hours to the hillier part or the state which will be a royal PITA and expensive! |

Regular 847![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Akron | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official ThreadI plan on doing Louisville for my 3rd Ironman, but I have not coughed up the greenbacks. I did Louisville last year and had a bummed knee. Def need some redemption on the run! The finish line was unbelievable, it was like I was on the red carpet!. Last year they updated the fb page or website to say there was limited registration left for certain Ironmans including KY. I sure hope they do this again. I want to wait until summer time to sign up again. Hoping I can wait that long. For the past couple of years it didn't sell out until near race time. |

If you can, hit the IAMTRI.com course rides and try and train in the heat of the day. |

Big life changes necessitated a change in schedule. So instead of Beach 2 Battleship I'll be doing Louisville. I"m really worried about the heat. Heat and humidity destroy me. Any tips? I was really worried about the heat, but honestly it didn't bother me that much. I did my longest training run on the hottest day of the summer 4 weeks out and then it got really cool in OH so my last 4 weeks of training were freaking me out. I spent a lot of time worrying about the heat. The bike ride was totally fine, just make sure to drink up. I remember it being hot on the run, but nothing that made me want to cry like a little girl and go home. There are so many aid stations that will get you through it. Just make sure you take the sponges and ice when available. You will be fine. Try to get as much training that you can in the heat and you will suffer just fine! Also, apply sunscreen when possible. If you get burnt you will pay for it ! I think I put so much on during transition I was eating it by mistake. Edited by SEADOCHA 2014-02-05 9:45 AM |

Regular 847![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Akron | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Threadwhere is everyone staying? Last year I stayed at the Hyatt and thinking of staying there this year. It was awesome to drop dead in the bath tub immediately after the race. I wouldn't mind staying near the Gault though because the walk is pretty far in the morning. Instead of 140.6 last year, I think it was about 143 ish or 144 with the walk to the back of the swim line. |

400![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official ThreadI stayed in the Hyatt last year too. Elevators were no issue (I've heard the Galt House can be a nightmare). The Hyatt was great post-race - I went to shower while my wife went to get my bike and gear bags from transition! Then it was a 30 yard walk to the bar to sit outside by the finish line until late into the evening. I agree that there was much more walking from the Hyatt otherwise - athlete registration, swim practice, gear check-in, race day gear check and walk to swim line. If you don't have someone willing to get your bike and gear bags post-race, I don't think I'd stay at the Hyatt. I'm doing Chattanooga this year and hotel reservations have been a challenge. Finish line and transition are very close to one another for Chatt (as opposed to Lville). Unfortunately the only hotel I could get is about one mile from finish line and transition in Chattanooga. |

I was there by myself last year and could barely walk because of my knee. It sucked having to go back out and get my stuff, but at least I was able to drive down to the spot with no problems to get my bike and gear. I was too sick to go to the bar afterwards. After a hot bath I could hear the crowd though. I figure I could just watch the finish on Youtube the next day. Maybe this year I'll make it outside by midnight to watch the last finishers. I wanted to take the mattress from my hotel home as well. I couldn't steal that like the towels though ;( |
