Subject: Two sets of brakes, has anyone done this?

I would like to set my bike up so that the 105 Shifter/Brakes remain on the bars while adding another set of brakes to the bar ends of my Profile Jammer GT Tri-bars.

Getting them installed is the easy part, however connecting them to the breaking system with the 105's  is the problem. The LBS has never done this before.

My brakes are Cane Creek.

Can it be done?

I'm no bike mechanic, but it seems to me that there'd be a problem with having two sets of brakes that are both capable of applying the same amount of pressure to the wheels. The Hed Brake lever above is designed just to help you scrub off some speed on descents, not to stop you altogether.

HED makes a third brake lever designed to be put on the aerobars and linked into your existing brake cables.

Don't get the HED3 brake..waste of money.

It was about $175 to buy and put on and does very little for braking. It was designed for taking off speed. I got it so I could stay aero going down a 10K hill that I top out over 50 at IMLP. I thought it would help me feel safer staying in aero knowing I could srub off speed without moving my arms. It doesn't work very well at all and seriously not worth the money. I never use it.

Next time I have my big bike tune up with cables replaced I'm having them take it off.

it can be done just fine...my bike has two sets of brakes and came that way stock...the main ones and then another on the tops of the bars...both stop the bike the same...

tell them to look at a Giant OCR3...they all came that way stock (at least at my LBS they did)

correction on my post above...mine are run in-line with each other...using the same cable so it could not be moved to the aerobars...

I had considered the HED setup a year ago, and everyone said it was garbage. Barely did anything. Like Kathy said, dont waste your money. Just get used to riding aero and moving your arms to brake.

I have the Hed 3rd brake and I love it because I live in a hilly area where I need to reduce my speed just a little when I cruise past driveways on fast downhills (gotta watch out for those drivers that don't look when pulling out).  As a brake for immediate stopping they are useless, but to just take off a little speed while not breaking aero it has worked great for me.

If you ask me, if you are riding somewhere where you might need the brakes, you should be off the aerobars anyway. I dont see the point in adding all the extra setup on there.
