My 16 year old cat seemed ill on Friday, then spent the night puking everywhere and trying to poop. Take him to the vet, get x-rayed to find out he is constipated. Reeeaalllly constipated.

$350 later, we go home with some cat laxatives with a warning that it takes 24-48 hours to take effect, then it will get messy. The vet was kinda pushing me to leave him at the hospital so I dont have to deal with the mess...but after the wallet groaning at the bill so far, I declined.

When I left for work he had just started to, um, let a couple train cars leave the tunnel. I have everything covered with puppy pads. Now, all I can imagine is the poop storm I will go home to....

Gotta love the old man though, he had saucer eyes and a look on his face that said 'mama....somethings happening...!!'

I hope he enjoys the dump, it sure cost me enough!

Zanne.

My poor sick kitty had diapers for a year before he died. The things we do for our pets. Rip, Max.

What caused the constipation?  The food? Not drinking enough water? Age?

My cat did the same thing a few months ago, only we left him at the vet cause he was so dehydrated (he wouldn't eat or drink cause he was so blocked up)  It cost us about $500.  Same cat had kidney stones a year before that and spent 3-4 days at the vet with IV fluids and a kitty catheter.

This cat is the garage kitty cause he won't use a litter box if the other cats have used it.  Really, he cost me another $455 to get carpets professionally cleaned.  A rescue cat?  I think I am done with cats when these guys die.

eta....he was constipated cause the vet had him on a small dose of antidepressants because of that issue about the litter box and the other kitties in the house.  So we took him off the antidepressants when they caused the constipation and it caused him to just pee all over the house.  The thanks for saving his azz is to pee all over??

She has a very distinctive bloodcurdling meow and uses it often, but pretty much the worst thing Biscuits does (other than get in trouble) is try to prevent me leaving if it's clear I'm going on a trip.

A few things. He's old, blind, has artritis in his lower spine and hips, and takes prednisone. He's pretty much sedentary from being blind so exerise doesnt happen.

He was on dry, medicated food for urine crystals(he had it so bad he needed surgery 10 yrs ago.) So now he is on the wet version.

He's a trooper-he takes the medication and while he has really loose, runny poop he is making it to his box.

Awwww poor guy!!! Just remember all the joy he's brought to your life. He's worth having to clean up a little stinky poo.

Poor kitteh!

I hope he's feeling a lot better now that he's been able to get rid of some of what was ailing him.

I know it's going to sound sad and cruel, perhaps, but when our Kelsie started having "accidents" around the house due to being about 15 years old, we made a VERY hard decision to euthanize her, and her "sister" (adopted another cat a year after getting Kelsie) together.  The younger one was more "skittish" and needed a companion, and with them both close in age, it wasn't going to be fair to keep the younger one alone.
My wife and I stayed during the process and kept them company - we owed them that.

We had to make the same decision with our 14+ year old Cocker 2 yeas ago. He had Liver cancer and the vet said he was not in pain "yet". I couldn't put him through the pain just to keep him around for a couple more weeks.

His "little sister" is 13 this year and i know that her time is coming, just trying to brace myself.
