OWS Nausea + Sunburn

Master  2429    Falls Church, Virginia |  Subject: OWS Nausea + SunburnI did my first OWS practice last week in a lake, and had a really great time. I loved it, actually! Two things that kept it from being super awesome were nausea and sunburn. For the nausea, I took Dramamine and wore ear plugs. Any other suggestions? This was a fairly calm lake, and my OWS race in two weeks will be in a river, so I know the chop will be much greater. Regarding sunburn, any brand suggestions for a really good water resistant sunblock? I was wearing something that claimed to be spf 50 for up to 80 minutes in the water, and reapplied often and generously. I've heard good things about Zelios, but man, that is some expensive stuff. Anybody have good luck with something I can just pick up in the drugstore? Thanks so much! |

Veteran 2441 Western Australia | Subject: RE: OWS Nausea + Sunburn Sorry Laura I can't help with the nausea but for sun screen I use Banana Boat Sport spray on 50+. It seems to have worked well for my fair skin in the very harsh Aussie sun. Remember what ever you use it works best if you put it on 10-15 minutes before you go out. |

As for sunscreen though, I've been using Dermalogica Protection 50 Sport SPF50 for years now. It's water-resistant for about an hour. But I've used the Solar Defense Booster SPF 50. |

However, lately, I found myself opting for the Skinceuticals Ultimate UV Defense. It's perfect for colder climates because it's moisturising. Anyway, you can check it out here. |

I'm like 90% German with some Scots thrown in for good measure. I will burn if I stand in front of the fridge too long with the door open. If I go out for a walk at night, and it's a full moon....I am applying sunscreen. Are you using spray or the lotion-y kind? I use sprays. I have much better luck. I've used Coppertone, Banana Boat, Member's Mark, Neutragena, whatever comes in the pink can to great success. There's one I don't like...can't remember which. When I'm wet or sweaty, it comes out a little more like the lotion-y stuff and beads up and I have to work that in. The clear ones....almost feel filmy. Neutragena's are like that. Almost feels like you could peel it off at first. The lotion stuff....takes too long as you have to work it around to every nook and cranny. And I always miss a spot. |
