Swim
Comments: Got hit in the head a few times. Had bought new goggles day before, they were really nice. The swim was a piece of cake. I wish that the swim was a bigger component of the overall race. What would you do differently?: Seed myself a little further up, as it was difficult to pass. Transition 1
Comments: The run up to the transition area was really long, and uphill. Had to pee, and decided that the transition was shot anyway, so took a portapotty break. The run to the bike start was long as well. What would you do differently?: not use the bathroom. Bike
Comments: Bike felt great, and now I know that I should and could have pushed harder. I passed a ton of people, and the only gals who passed me looked really pro. I had one gu at the beginning, and then one near the end. Also downed one and a half bottles of gatorade. I now know that that was overkill, but I didn't want to bonk on the run. I love my clipless pedals and shoes! What would you do differently?: go faster, drink less Transition 2
Comments: The long run from bike dismount to my rack helped loosen my legs. Had no problem clipping out. Had to stop and take shoes off half way to rack because I felt too unstable. I need to practice leaving shoes clipped in and mounting/dismounting barefoot. What would you do differently?: not much. Run
Comments: by FAR the worst part. by the time I got to the run I was more in "finish" mode than "race" mode. I just wasn't working that hard. I think everyone I passed on the bike passed me on the run. In high school cross country I ran an 8 min. mile. I would like to get back to that, although I did weigh 30 lbs less then. That's my goal for next season. The important thing was that I finished, now I'll work on speed. What would you do differently?: push a little harder, be more mentally tough. Post race
Warm down: Got race medal from Michellie (sp?) Jones! wandered around in a daze trying to find the transition area and looking for Laura. Ate a clif bar, drank some water and took off my suit. Forgot where I had parked my car, and wandered around hauling heavy race bag and walking bike. The post race was actually the worst part. Didn't go to any of the festivities. What limited your ability to perform faster: Not knowing what to expect. Event comments: The race was awesome. The volunteers were wonderful. I totally enjoyed my first Tri, and am looking for another one to do this season! Last updated: 2004-07-25 12:00 AM

Got there early, set up transition area. Transition area closed at 6:45, My wave started at 8:30, so lots of time to hang around. Chilled w/Laura (whizzer), watched elite wave, went to bathroom. Cheered for laura entering/exiting water, then got in line for my wave. I was, amazingly, not at all nervous, so I spent a lot of time being bored and calming other participants.
some light stretching. Not much really.
