I took my 5yo to see Ratatouille.  What a great film.

It put the bug in me to get back to serious cooking again.  Use to do it with a passion.  The last few years, it's basically been maintenance cooking.

The other day, I was thinking that if I want to get back to cooking, I ought to get back to gardening as well.  You remind me of that again.

Mmmm... fresh tomatoes... fresh herbs... fresh peppers... cukes... onions... greens... beets... mmmm....

This is my first year growing anything edible at home...  Tomato plants are getting big but no fruit yet.  Basil is looking great too!  Looking forward to eating this stuff.

Multi-grain bread, slathered with mayo, thick slices of tomato, basil and cheddar cheese - I LOVE tomato cheese sandwiches - especially if the tomatoes are warm from outside and the cheese is cold from the fridge. YUM!!

Home-grown tomatoes are the BEST. Especially delicious little sun-warmed 1cm-diameter cherry tomatoes that go straight from the vine into your mouth. Congratulations on your garden bounty!

no garden for me this year.    last year I had a doozie - we lived in a half empty trailer park and we farmed the unoccupied lot next door..,,,,  I am managing herbs in pots this year.

but I DO get farmers markets  in reno and one of the better things about living next to California is the organic farmers (for the record, the bad thing is high realestate prices)....  I have a plate of brown cherokee tomatoes on the table., making a lovely centerpeice while getting sweeter and I plan a light balsamic basil garlic dreassing.

I have married a man who does not like tomatoes - he does not like sour tastes!   Sun dried are ok.....

Tomato, cilantro, bit o jalepeno, lime juice, salt, pepper

with cucumber raita and chapati

You are very lucky to have a green thumb and plenty of home growns.  They are so good for you and tastey too.  Congrats on your crop.
