I'm wanting to do some swimming in an olympic sized pool but I'm guessing that they are hard to find.  I know many of the universities such as UGA, GT, Emory, etc have them but you only have access if you know someone who goes there to accompany you.  I'm hoping Friday to meet with a friend who does UGA triathlon but she said that the UGA pool (which I've swam before) is not available.

Are there any other places in the Atlanta or Athens (or any area in Georgia for others looking for olympic pools) that is an olympic sized but available for use?

You could also try Mountainview Aquatic center in Cobb County.  I'm pretty sure their pool is still set up as 50M, but I would call first.

Thanks.  The Watkinsville one would be perfect since she lives in Athens.  I checked their website and it didn't say wether it was an olympic or not.  However, I think you can only swim if you get a membership.  I didn't see anything about 1 day use.

I have a SwimAtlanta near me in Lawrenceville but I went in to buy some jammers one time and it was super crowded and they had it set up at 25m/y but I guess they change it to 50m for the competitions.  It has a $5 one day pass but worried it may be crowded, especially if they go to the long lanes.

I would get a membership to one but my gf who is home with parents for the summer goes to Emory and I can get 14passes for $50 to their olympic pool so I'll do that once she gets back.  I'm just needing one because my buddy just got into triathlons along with me (and I have a few others interested) and my friend on the UGA tri doesn't mind helping us learn to swim properly.  So we are wanting to get a few lessons in for people interested in triathlons.

Most of the larger pools are 50m long and 25 yds wide.  They switch the lanes to 50m in the summer and for special races.  Obviously you get a lot more lanes with the 25 yd lanes.  If you are doing lessons I would think 25 yds would be fine.

This is not convenient for anyone living in Athens, but for anyone else who might need to know, the Grant Park Pool and the Adamsville Natatorium are both 50M Pools. GP is only open during the summer and Adamsville gets converted to  a 25M pool in the fall/winter.

The Swim Atlanta pool in Lawrenceville is set to 50 meters for the summer. It is crowded at times, usually when they have the swim classes, but opens up pretty well at others. I noticed 11:00-12:00am is a great time to go during the week.

Where is the grant park pool exactly? Is it the one by freedom parkway and the MLK park? My GF lives there and I am usually down there saturday into sunday if they are open sundays early that would be great to fit in since the local pool I use bogan park in buford is only open mon/tues early ams the only time I can make it. Would love to fit another day of swimming in.

Thanks guys.  We are going to try SwimAtlanta 1st.  Then if they are too crowded we'll go to Collins Hill in north Lawrenceville and worst case we'll go to my gym pool and just swim through the teenaged waders in the lap pool there.

In re Grant Park Pool: No, it's off Boulevard, one light south of I-20; It's on the other side of Grant Park from the zoo - You park on Park St. A significant amount of space is allocated to lap swimming, so don't be put off by the crowds. I believe the website is www.grantparkpool.org.

I just looked it up on google maps and it appears to be like 2 blocks from her place... still no clue where it is though haha. I'm out of town for business (actually sitting in baltimore traffic as I post this) so I'll check it out next week when I am back, thanks.

Kind of an update.  We had our friend stay in Athens because it was storming so we weren't sure they'd be swimming.  We did go to Swim Atlanta and it was set to 50m.  Unfortunately on Friday their lap swim isn't open and I saw some swimmers and kids getting lessons.

I went to Collins Hill Park and their pool I believe was set to 25m.  They weren't too crowded and have wide swim lanes.
