Another AeroBar Road Bike Question

Get some aerobars, no question about it.  You'll notice an instant difference in speed, even if you're not fitted perfectly on them.  Since it's a road bike, I'd say go more for comfort on the aerobars for now even if it's a little less aero, that way you'll use them more.  As for the FF seatpost I'd go speak with a good fitter first before deciding if really something you need.

How far are you racing? Shorter distance stuff, I would not bother... the position you can "simulate" with the FF and clip ons won't be much (any?) more aero than being deep on your drops. Longer stuff, it's more comfortable to be in aero for distances (to me anyways) so I might consider it then... but even then I'd get some made specifically for a road bike and leave the seat alone.

Most people just simply can't get any kind of drop in the front with that setup (to all fairness... many people ride a tri bike with no drop too... but that's another story)

IMO if you are happy with your road position, I would simply add aerobars and not worry about trying to make your road bike into a pseudo tribike.  If you get shorty (or very adjustable) aerobars, you should be able to use your aerobars as an additional position without compromising the handling of your bike and keeping the other hand positions available to you.

once you get good and comfortable in the aero postion than u can think of a new aero front because many times people struggle with the gearing on the aerobars and not the base bar

Can y'all suggest some brands of shorty (adjustable) aerobars? I would like to keep a road bike setup and have the additional aero position.

Profile Design Jammers, Vision TT Mini and Profile Design T2+ DL are probably the most popular shorty aerobars.  There are others but none come to mind.

As for very adjustable aerobars, Profile Design Carbon Strykes and T2's are the most adjustable aerobars I have used.

Thanks Shane,  I look into those.

I just got new fit on my 73.25 degree Tarmac.  I switched to a straight seat post, dropped the saddle down and forward, lowered the angle of the stem and adjusted the pads on my GT Jammers.

So far I have only been outside twice for short rides but I like it.  I can tell that my pedaling mechanics are better and I generate more power when my foot comes over the top of the rotation.  Plus I can pull on the Jammers to help me increase power for say, a seated climb.  I am not used to riding in the Jammers yet for very long, but I am going to give it some time.  If I can't get comfortable, my fitter will help me. 

I can still ride fine in the drops and on the hoods, so it's all good. 

He did not think the FF seat post was necessary or advisable. 

Thanks to all.  I am going to get some Jammers.  I will let y'all know how it goes. 

As for distance, I am doing a few Sprints and an OLY this year.  HIM next June (2011).
