![]() Swim
Comments: I liked this swim. I did not like being in the last wave as I thought it would leave me on the course later with no company. But the swim was great. I liked the pre-race encouragment from other BTers...especially Joanne. What would you do differently?: Just keep working on upper body work to improve on the time. My swim time is pretty pedictable and consitent. ![]() Transition 1
Comments: I thought this would be a long transition as the swim out was up a steep incline and then a bit of a run. I was pleasantly surprised to see my time. I took my time to have a gel and big drink of water before getting on the bike. I always have issues on the bike with my stomach and I was working hard to avoid stomach problems. What would you do differently?: This was an OK transition. The wetsuit got stuck though. ![]() Bike
Comments: For me this was a good performance. I felt really good on the bike with respect to my drinking and had no stomach issues atall. At about halfway, the balls of both feet began to go numb. I tried to wiggle my toes around but nothing helped. By the end of the bike ride I couldn't feel the balls of my feet and my toes. This had a huge impact on my run. I had never had this problem when I had my old pedals and I really think it may be an issue of positioning my foot in the shoes. I have REALLY small feet and it is hard to center the shoes. I was so psyched when I finished the ride as I really felt this was a good ride for me. Joanne passed me during the race and gave me some much needed encouragment. What would you do differently?: Need to go to LBS and have pedals/shoes evaluated for proper psotion (unless anyone here wants to comment and save me the trip) ![]() Transition 2
Comments: I got to T2 and someone had knocked over the bike stand so I had to look around for my stuff under the fallen rack. And there was no place to put my bike. I put it on the ground and tried to rub a little feeling back into my toes! Off to the run... ![]() Run
Comments: This is where things started to fall apart for me. As I started to get feeling back into my feet I could feel the balls of my feet and my toes begin to throb (kind of like when your cold and suddenly get warm)...I tried to wiggle my toes and loosen my laces but it kept getting more and more painful. To put any pressure on the balls of my feet and toes was excruciating. I really didn't think I would be able to keep going. It hurt alot more to slow down than to keep running but the pain of running was really bad. I have had plantar fasciatis in the past and the pain was similar only in the balls of my feet and toes. I was so mad that this was happeninening as up till then I was having a great race. Add to that two really big blisters that I could feel on the bottom of two toes. I shuffled and ran when I could but was so disappointed...I wasn't winded or physically tired...but my feet just wouldn't do their job. What would you do differently?: I need to figure out what went wrong with the bike shoe/pedal to the run. That impacted my performance in a big way! ![]() Post race
Warm down: It was so nice to hear and see my BT friends waiting for me at the finish. Max and Kathy and Joanne were there with high fives and congrats...my husband was waiting for me at the end with a smile and a huge hug. It was a great feeling to have people cheering for me! I went to the BT tent to see how the rest had fared and was greeted with support and congrats from everyone. It was great fun and supportive to hear everyone else's stories of their race experience. I had lunch with my hubby and enjoyed the beautiful day. Despite the run problems it was an excellent day and a great race! What limited your ability to perform faster: The issues I had with my feet on the bike to run really impacted my performance. I need to figure out what happened before my next race (on Sunday! Yikes!) Event comments: This was a great experience. I truly enjoyed meeting the people that I have only just met on line. What a great group of people. I felt like I walked away a winner no matter what my performance was! Thanks to all who made this a great day! Go check out the photos in the albums section! Last updated: 2005-08-28 12:00 AM

The night before my husband and I drove to Foxboro to watch the Toby Keith concert...very inspiring. We got up around 6 and ate hotel food (since I forgot to bring mine)...I had rice krispies and a half a bagel with jelly and a small glass of OJ. Seems to have worked out OK as I felt great for most of the race. I was really concerned about nutrition and hydration as I have had significant problems in the past. I had set a goal time of 3 hours and six minutes...
Headed over to the race site around 7AM and ran into Max and May. They pointed out the BT tent. I went to say hi and introduce myself to the other BTers. Went to body marking where KathyG and her daughter were helping out. Set up transition and then walked to the swim start. For some reason I was REALLY nervous this AM about this race. It was only my second oly distance and my first didn't have great results.
