Subject: Ran out of gas today!
Literally. On the parkway. What an idiot I am. I relied on the car computer usually get 400 miles out of a tank; odometer said 370. Thankfully my Bro in law was 5 miles ahead of me and was able to stop, get me gas and I was back on my way in 20 minutes. 5 minutes later and he would beeen over the GW Bridge and I woulda been SOL. IO him huge.

I did it too back in the day when I used to put $2 in the tank but I'm supposed to know better now.

Anyone else want to admit it?

p.s still managed to get a 6 mile run in (just came to work late, hey I got my prioroties right!)

The last time I did it was in July or early August. Yep.

That was my 4th time.

I just did it over the holidays. I was driving home to NY - somewhere in Illinois about 1am. Just as I pass an exit the gas light comes on. In my car this means I have about 2 gallons left so I'm not worried. Until the needle starts dropping quickly. 11 miles later the car sputters to a stop about 1/2 mile from the next exit. After a brief bit of cursing I realize I'm about to get a run in after all and get ready to head out into the 12 degree weather. Give the key one last try... and it starts up! I fill it up and sure enough there is over 1-1/2 gallons left so it must just have been the way the gas was sloshing or something...

I haven't done it since college, when I was driving my '72 Super Beetle with the broken gas gauge. I used to tape notes to the dash to remind me when I had last filled up.

The idea was to save a couple of bucks cuz gas is 20c a gallon chaper in Jersey.

Cost of gas can $10 (they wouldn't lend one)
Now I'm taking BIL out to lunch. Cost $15.

Even with the new math I can see that didn't work out to well for me!

That's genius! And to think I spent 100 bucks for a new wiper motor.

I had a friend that had a super beetle in high school and he used to take me and a friend to school (pick us up on the way). He never had gas so we would all chip in like 35 cents each for gas and put in like 95 cents and that would last us till the next morning.
