I have a 3.5 hour trainer ride tomorrow, and have yet to pull this movie out of the Godfather box set. Worth watching? I've heard lot of negative reviews, but thought I'd throw it out there for opinions.

It wasn't THAT terrible. The first two were just so good they make everything look bad.

Fast forward to the "Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in..." scene. Watch it a couple of times and recognize it as the historic, tragic moment when Al Pacino decided to become a cartoon character of himself. Then shut it off and watch 1 or 2 again.

So did you watch?  If so, what did you think.

my $0.02 - It's worth watching, just to see how it was wraped up. Don't expect it to be in the same league as I and II.

Since it is not based on the book, like I & II, I always felt that it was not 'really' part of it, anyway.  It felt like more of a spin-off, than part of the same story.

weekend training overtaken by real life events (near Boston, so it was, uh, unusual). Will likely watch this weekend. Will report back next week.

I watched the whole series a year or two ago.  Honestly, not memorable to me.  That's not good or bad.  I just don't remember it.

Unlike Goodfellas, which could be the best gangster movie of all time, IMO.  Scarface, Godfather Series, etc. all come second.

It has its moments, and its interesting to see where Michael Corleone's leadership style has taken the family and the amount of power he has amassed.

Some of the characters do completely implausible things, but hey, that's Hollywood.

The most interesting aspect of the movie to me was how they tied into real life events and plausible conspiracy theories (the Vatican banking scandal and the possible assassination of Pope John Paul I.)

The first two are undoubtedly two of my favorite movies of all time.  The third is very mediocre compared to the others, but if you compare it to about 95% of the movies made today, it is above mediocrity.  My biggest complaint of the movie is the acting of Sofia Coppola which may go down as one of the worst performances in all of cinema.

Finally watched it, and it wasn't bad. Wasn't great, either, but interesting enough. At times seemed to padded with the flashbacks to prior movies, etc.

Ending was a bit of a surprise. The very end, where Michael Corleone is shown as a old man, and just flops over dead. What was that about? Some intent to show him dying alone, and a feeble old man? A result of what happened at the opera house, (or other choices in his life)?  What happened in the interim? Did he just withdraw from everything and move back to Sicily?

Agree that Sophia Coppola's performance being a bit wooden at times, the " 'cuz" thing was a bit creepy, too, but she certainly looked quite nice in most scenes . (BTW -- she appeared in all 3 GF movies -- the first 2 were uncredited roles as a kid).
