Subject: I'm trying to track down juvenile fiction from the 1980's

does anyone know a source online I could use?

I'm working on a piece that looks at some of the books those of us growing up in the 80's (I'm 37) used to read.

I have memories of some great books but not their names. I'm trying to locate a source or db of some sort online where I can do this research. Just need a place to be able to put keywords what the story was about, etc.

Amazon and bn.com aren't really helping.

Any ideas?

No help on a specific DB - but google will be your friend.

I'm 38 and I remember - The Dark is Rising (and others), Alfred Hitchcock and the 3 Investigators, Norman's Gor series, the Stormbringer novels, many others as well. Maybe post some thoughts about books here and let BT help?

Have you tried your local public library?

If you can't find the titles in their on-line catalog, try asking the childrens' librarian. They usually have an astounding ability to recall books based on plot/characters/cover art.

Have you tried the old fashioned library route? I remember at the library I went to growing up, they had a computer that you could put key "ideas" of the kind of book you were interested in into the computer, and it would give you suggestions. Something like that might be useful if you could remember enough of the book.

Other than that, I second the Google idea! I've found lots of old childhood things on there.

I'm on the library search system now.

The piece I'm writing is bringing me back to how much I loved reading as a kid....and it's a trip down memory lane remembering some of my favorites.

the specific book I'm trying to track down.
set in 1980's....group of hs kids are going on a camping trip out to a desert. it's a total coming of age story following a few different characters who experience their first time or want to experience their "first time" and raging horomones and fitting in and all of that.
there ends up being a flash flood and some of the kids die....

that's all I remember and for the life of me can't remember the title.
if anyone does, let me know.

I was a member of troll book club, not sure if they are around. I read a lot of the Newbury Award Winners growing up, you can find a list of those online, and many will sound familiar.

I also have a list of "books before 20" that was given to me in 7th grade, I'll see if I can scare it up on my HD.

Sorry, that RTF file was an attempt at OCR recognition off of one of those purpelish ditto machine copies...now that's 80s right there!
