doesn't guarantee you squat.

I had a great time at my last tri of the season yesterday. I had a top 10 overall finish (i think, as results have not been posted yet), and finished fourth in my AG. This was bittersweet, as i'll take a top ten overall finish anyday, but you kind of expect to at least podium your AG when you do that, no? At least 3rd in AG? Please?

Anyways, this has been a heck of a year for me... I started my first triathlon in April as a BOP and finished in October as a FOP...and on a MTB for all 4 tris.

I guess you just can't control who shows up that day...

There's always next year, though...

I ran a 10K a few years ago and finished 6th overall, and 6th in my AG. Like you said. You never know who is going to show up that day.

Congrats on the top 10 finish. Yeah, you can only race whomever shows up that day.

Want to know what's even worse?

Getting 2nd OA in a 200+ person race and winning your AG by default because there was no one else there. Atleast give me something on paper to brag about? :p

Or

Finishing 15th OA in a 800 person race and getting 10th in your AG.

I've kinda stopped caring about my AG placement..

I'd be pretty happy about winning my AG, even if by default. When I was in college, some friends and I did a race up to the top of the Mellon Bank Building in Philadelphia (1039 steps). We decided to register as a 5-person team. Well, there were only two 5-person teams. So, we came in second and received medals for our work. I was happy with that.

Well I'm not. I want to beat someone or even lose to someone!

You beat 198+ people! I'd say that's an accomplishment. ;P

Yeah, I was 4th in my AG at my tri (turned into a du) 2 weeks ago.  It sucked knowing that I was not that far off!

But I made it up the week after with a 2nd in AG podium and medal.

You did a top 10 finish on a mountain bike.

Wow, I wish I had your engine.

Well, the tri I just completed had a really hilly course with some really rough patches of road (to include huge speed bumps on one leg). I don't know what kind of advantage you're going to have on a road/tri bike on a course with that criteria. Not downplaying the feat, mind you , but just throwing that out there. On top of that, my best event was first (the run) and I really pushed it. On run bike swim tris, you win it on the run, in my opinion.

I have a friend who finished 2nd in his AG recently and they only gave medals and honored the top finishers in each group.  So, even 2nd in your AG doesn't guarantee anything!

Ohh...then you suck!

Kidding big time - congrats. Sounds like you had a great year.

Had a friend who could move a mtb pretty good, and he picked up almost 2mph in a sprint by borrowing a half-decent road bike for the second year.

You'll get to that podium soon enough.
