Subject: Am I an addict? Or soon to be?

I'm no pro or podium king ... just an old guy trying to get back in to shape.  I've just now started to be able to average around 3 miles per run with a few longer runs mixed in.  I ride a road bike that poses as a tri-bike via aero bar super bike costume.  Yes, I'm Captain Clydesdale able to eat an entire hoagie in a single bite and still finish a sprint without puking my toes up ... yep, those are my super powers.  Wait totally off subject track.  I have become totally consumed with getting a Tri bike, a Cervelo P2 specifically.  I've even tested one and of the Tri bikes I've tested, the P2 is my favorite.  But for who I am, the level where I am and participating (note not competing in) Sprints, do I need one?  Or is it just a want?  I think the WAY COOL factor is getting to me.  Someone, please talk some sense in to me befoe I put another notch on my credit card.

I sure do think it's purdy though ......

But you get miles for every dollar spent! Think of the free airline miles you'll earn when you lay out for that great new bike.

The key is: THE MILES ARE FREE!!! You know you want those too!

I'm a middle of the pack kinda guy with a "finish today" run speed. Clyde to the bone, did B2B full at about 220 Lbs.

I absolutely love my Felt B12 with HED 60s wheelset

Get it. Why the heck not? Can you afford it without keeping something from your family that's needed? Then what the hell, go for it.

If you can afford it, and you think it would be nice to have, then get it. Why not? I'm a solid slowpoke in races, but thats not stopping me from riding my P2. Its fun, I enjoy it, and I know equipment is NOT a limiting factor in my times .

BTW -- your post falls solidly under the "Dear crackheads, should I smoke more crack?" heading.

I've been running and doing tri probably before some of the younger BT members were born.  Don't have a tri bike, race wheels aero helmet, etc....never have and have never been tempted.  I do have a nice carbon bike though that I bought on ebay. I like having quality cycling shorts and don't skimp when my running shoes needs replacement. Equipment with tri is kind of like golf, fly fishing, and other hobbies.  A person can spend a lot on equipment if they want, or not.  If it motivates someone to get off the couch and they can afford it that's a good thing.  I would rather spend the money I am saving on beer.

Yes. Do it. And right after the bike move straight on to the GPS watch, wet suit, new running and bike shoes. You must be complete otherwise there is no point.

Step 1: We admitted we were powerless over our addiction.

If you can afford it, by all means get it.  In my opinion anything that keeps you "addicted" to a healthy lifestyle is a great thing.

Bob Saget is a filthy, foul-mouthed, comedy GENIUS.

gr33n - 2013-05-07 9:23 AM Yes. Do it. And right after the bike move straight on to the GPS watch, wet suit, new running and bike shoes.

Wait, that sounds way too similar to what I did...Only the cycling shoes came after the bike and before the watch...And the bike was an S5 because I wasn't sure about riding in aero at the time....but in my defense...My only bike was a mountain bike at the time and I couldn't ride my new road bike without cycling shoes and I kept losing count of laps in the pool and the water is so cold up here and my old running shoes...Smile

You are making me think about buying a used one, because I am not spending that much money on a bicycle, I would rather buy a motorcycle at those prices.
