Is it pretty smooth? bumps, potholes,etc... ?

I rode it twice last month, and I remember it being mostly smooth. The half IM course has SOME rough bits. The section SOUTH of Mormon Lake has some long cracks that run side to side that are bone jarring. Depending on race-day temps, they may close up. That said, it's only about 4 miles of the course, so it's not a big deal.

OH!  I can't forget the 2 cattle guards... which the HIM course takes you over twice each.

If you are doing the HIM don't forget to make the right turn. I am just saying they could have spent a little more on bigger signs. The lake you go around should always be on your left. As for road surface I would say that it is average to above average. On the back section as you start to come around the lake was a very fast downhill. I remember that I had to make up time (see first sentence) so I got in a good position and pedaled as hard as I could. I think that I hit 45 mph in that section.

I second that comment. I had the same experience on both of my training rides.

I keep looking at the bike course map for the Half and find it difficult to understand.
So you leave transition and head south down FS3 RD.
Then you turn right and loop around the lake on Mormon Lake Rd. West Side.
You then merge back on to FS3 and turn right heading south to the turnaround.
Then do you ride back North on FS3 and again turn left north of the lake on Mormon Lake Rd. West?
If so, then you loop the lake and when you returns to FS3 turn left and head back all the way to transition?

The course is a modified lollypop. You ride south from transistion and then go counterclock wise around the lake two times and then back to transition. On the first lap around the lake you have to add on a little chunk of an out-and-back, but you do that only on the first lap.

That little out and back on the first lap will have you biking out of the lake basin. On your way back from the turnaround you will be going downhill for quite a bit.

If you are unable to bike the course I highly reccomend driving the course so you see where the right turn is.

    Well spending any extra money is not in Eddie's eyes for those signs you can't miss. As far as the sold out thing... hmm... we'll see if it solves the correct amount of medals issue since the past two years they let anyone sign up who had the money the last two years that lead to the medal shortage. The medals are different this year as they represent the 25th years for the race... I know cuz this is the medal they sent me to represent last years medal they didn't have for me!!! YEP THIS YEAR's MEDAL FOR LAST YEARS RACE..... OVER 11 MONTHS LATER!!!!

    But definitely points out lack of concern and care for the athletes and integrity of the race director.

    Again this year's medal for last year's race!?!?! Says a HUGE amount!!
