Champion  8766       Evergreen, Colorado |  Subject: WWBTDWWBTD? I'm doing Escape from Alcatraz in March. I have been to San Fran several times and it's fun. I need to reserve airline tickets in the next day or so and I cannot decide how long to stay. I thought the airline ticket prices might make my decision for me, but I'm using miles and believe it or not the dates are still WIDE open in the 25k miles ticket range. I could stay up to a week no problem. So, what should I do??? Stay a few extra days or get in/get out as fast as possible? I wasn't planning on renting a car so I'd be limited to whatever I could do walking/public transit. What say you, COJ? |

Elite 5145 Cleveland | Subject: RE: WWBTD I'd say that it all depends upon how much time you want to spend there. If you think you'd enjoy being there a full week, then why not do it? If you think that four days is enough to see and do the things you want to do aside from the race, then just keep it to being a long weekend. |

Queen BTich 12411 , | Subject: RE: WWBTD Parking in the city is terribly expensive (I'm sure you know that) so if you want to head out of the city, wait and rent the car on the day you actually plan on driving around. When I was doing my trip, we were going up to Humbolt county & Eureka & hiking in the redwoods with our rental car. Seemed like a fun trip and friends had recommended it. (trip got cut short though) |

If you can overcome those two issues, I'd say go for it several days. I have a good buddy who has done EFA a bunch of times and he always complains about the hills. Go find some hills SW of Abilene and do them over and over again... |

I guess I could just stay two extra days and maybe go do *something * outside San Fran...maybe I'll check with work tomorrow that they can spare me and then try to figure out a 2-3 day adventure for after the race... |

Champion 8766 Evergreen, Colorado | Subject: RE: WWBTD Anyone have a good recommendation for a wine tour company? My caveats are: 1. Must leave from San Francisco and include all transpo. I am not renting a car. Besides, car + wine tasting = danger! 2. One day stuff is probably best. Since I'll have my bike case with me switching hotels to do an overnight tour is probably more trouble than it's worth. So far google has found me http://winetrain.com and www.winecountrytourshuttle.com. But google finds can be sketchy! |
