Subject: RE: Late 90s Land Rover Discovery OwnersJim: I've got a '98 Disco and love it ... I am one of the few people that actually take it off road, get it muddy and scratch up the paint from driving it in the woods. I also have had it for 5+ years w/out needing any serious mechanical repair (knock on wood). That being said, you won't pass many gas stations without being a regular ... at each one. As I do not have a long commute, it is not an issue for me - but I can see how it could add up quickly. (Do not be disappointed when you see ~10mpg.) Also, there is not a lot of power under the engine (but plenty of torque), which can contribute to the gas consumption. I plan on driving the wheels off mine but will probably breakdown and buy *gasp* a stationwagon next (easier to put the bikes/kayaks on top). Have you looked into the Volvo XC or Suburu? ... both are also well suited to hauling gear and last forever. |
