A training partner!!!!
no kidding! i was getting ready for my training ride
(resistance ride - pulling 100 lbs of burley, girls, diaper bag, etc.
), and e said she wasn't riding in the burley with her sister. she was going to ride her own bike! so, i let her do a few more laps up and down the alley before i convinced her to get in the trailer. after our ride, she got out of the burley and went straight to her bike again! she rode even rode through a brief summer shower! that's my girl!
How long before she gets aerobars and clipless pedals on the new ride?
i don't even have aerobars! she does have a sassy little giro helmet though. she is doing her first kids fun run 1k race in about 4 weeks. we'll see how that goes and then maybe do another one before the snow flies. she is a fast kid! long legs like her papa. she isn't swimming on her own yet, so we have to work on that first. her babysitter is 12 and has done a half dozen team tris
(doesn't hurt that her mom is a tri coach...which is how she became our babysitter
), so e is already talking about doing a 'try-flon like you and mackenzie'. no pressure!
really, we had to be good about the bike. my husband and i both love riding. it was one of the things we had in common when we met, going for single track dates. we didn't want to push the bike on e, but we also both had our own expectations that our child would be a natural. it took some patience, but it paid off, since she obviously loves it now. if we had pushed her, she might have avoided the bike.
will have to post some pictures. the bike is very cute. PINK. i really wanted her to get a bike without WHITE tires, but the only kids bikes they had through the bike shop i used to work at
(and still get a 25% discount at
) were very gender specific - very girlie pink w/ white tires, or very butch navy w/ black tires. e had to have some shade of pink. 'm okay with pink, glitter, tassels - but why white tires?
