My Husband has relegated my Trainer to the garage because of teh noise.  The only thing I can think of ais a thick rubber mat (maybe from a hardware) underneath.  It might absorb some of teh noise and vibration just enough to stop him whinging.Wink

Turn your stereo up so he can't hear the trainer, problem solved.Laughing

Actually I would try the rubber mat trick the other poster mentioned and see if that worked.  Does it seem loud to you, some trainers are louder than others.

I used to put a folded up towel under mine and some newspaper.  I don't bother in the place I'm in now though as the noise doesn't seem to travel (at least nobody has complained).

It depends on how the house is constructed.  If it's wood, you're screwed.  Unless you sound proof it like a music studio, the vibration would carry no matter what.  I used to ride the trainer in my exBF's townhouse living room (hardwood floor) so that I can watch TV.  The vibration shook the the entire unit plus the neighbor's.  Got a complain.  Then I moved the set up to the basement (concrete floor) which took care of the business.  A thick rubber mat would help dampen the vibration to an extent.

I live in an apt building with hardwood floor, but the true floor is concrete.  I asked my neighbor and no one even notice I was riding.

Try a trainer mat or similar.  I use a yoga mat doubled up and haven't heard any complaints from my neighbours.

I think your pretty much hosed if you live above someone in a wooden multi family structure.  If it were me, I would not use the trainer unless the other family were not home.

I would imagine you are screwed if they can already hear you.  Personally if I had a neighbor making noise form working out I would not complain but that is just me (unless it was 2am everyday).  I think if you live in an apartment you have to deal with some noise and most people don't realize this.  If you don't want noise buy a house or live on the top floor.

I would do what you could.  Yoga mat or rubber mats from the hardware store.  But I wouldn't go broke over it.  Maybe an extra piece of carpet.

I would tell them you have tried to do eveything you can to mitigate, maybe avoid any odd hours, but that's about all you can do.

yea, he is a kind of weird older guy, but he isn't here on the weekends, so i guess i will make due. i am only in this place for another 1.5 months anyways.  the floors are carpeted, but wood (im assuming) underneath. . nothing spectacular. i'll have to take this into consideration when i get a new apt!

I ran into the same problem when I lived in an apartment. I went to home depot and got a panel of hard foam insulation to put under my trainer mat to dampen the sound. It looks like styrofoam, but it's pink...it's called "Foamular, " made by Owens Corning.

Good luck, man. My downstairs neighbor's guest came out one morning and yelled through my open window that I was keeping him awake and asked me to hold off for an hour so he could sleep in. It was about 10am, so I considered that an acceptable time to make noise. Pffft...neighbors just don't understand my need to train!

I got yelled out by my neighbor before for walking too loud.  She was a crazy pregnant lady so I just let it go.

It was not my wife.  This was well before she meet.  Now she hates anykind of training I do.  I figured she would like getting me out of the house but apparently she likes me around (maybe she is crazy).
