Master 2571 Tiger's Den | Subject: Asics 2120 and Asics Kayano What's the difference between these 2? I know they are both stability, but what makes the Kayano worth the extra $$ ( I have a gift card to use on my next running shoes and wonder if it's worth splurging on the kayanos) I've been running in 2110 then 2120 and have had no issues other than they seem to only last about 250 miles for me. |

Extreme Veteran 477 | Subject: RE: Asics 2120 and Asics Kayano I'm not positive but I think the Kayano's are "stability plus", which means they are better for heavier runners. The 2110's and 2120's are just "stability". |

Champion 5345 Carlsbad, California | Subject: RE: Asics 2120 and Asics Kayano The Kayano is a "Cushioned" Shoe while the 2110 is just a Stability Shoe. The Kayano has more structure and materials that are designed to provide extra cushioning. The 2110 has less cushioning but what is there tends to be more durable. The 2110 is a bit over an ounce lighter owing to less matierial. From my experience, if your only getting 250 out of the 2110/2120, I would be careful with the Kayano's. You may very well get less miles out of them before they go flat. This is because the extra cushioning seems to be less durable. FWIW: I don't run in Asics any more because I found them to be very pricey compared to other brands and not very durable. Edited by WaterDog66 2008-01-14 4:29 PM |

What shoe are you using now? Ernie |

Champion 5345 Carlsbad, California | Subject: RE: Asics 2120 and Asics Kayano I am currently running in: Saucony Trigon 5 (350 Per Pair) Note: The mileage listed is the "Retirement Distance" and I can almost always get to that number without any adverse feeling. (I could maybe get a bit more, but why risk injury to save a few bucks)
To be fair to Asics, The Saucony Triumph and the New Balance 1060s (Both Cushioned Neutral) as similar durability issues as the Nimbus. For me anyway, the moral of the story is to avoid the more expensive, heavier Cushioned Neutral Shoe. They feel great for the first 100 miles but tend to bite back very hard when they start to degrade. The basic Neutral Trainer and Neutral Performance shoes are all I am willing to buy these days. Elite 2915 New City, New York | Subject: RE: Asics 2120 and Asics Kayano Asics recently brought back the Kayano XI's. I like them better than the XII's. Seem a little lighter. I've been rotatating these two pairs and I'm pushing 400 miles on each. No issues but I guess it's time to order some new XI's. |

Veteran 749 | Subject: RE: Asics 2120 and Asics Kayano 2120 are getting hard to find since the 2130 has replaced it and it is a better shoe. Much softer ride with all the stability. I like it. I have always gotten good mileage out of Asics 3-400, Brooks are pretty much forever. Go to a running store and wear some samples on a treadmill and you will find one you like within about an hour. Expert 655 Muncie, IN | Subject: RE: Asics 2120 and Asics Kayano I'm just getting to the latter stages of my Kayanos. Before that I ran in Cumulus and before that 2100s(similar to 2120). Although they all were somewhat unique I really didn't feel a whole lot of differences between them. I'm finding that they are wearing out faster than what I like. The tread in the toe area wears out much faster than the rest of the shoe. I would say that if you are stuck on Asics I'd opt for saving a little money and getting the 2120s or try the Cumulus. The Kayanos were good but wore out faster than my Cumulus and 2100s. Oddly enough I've started running in Saucony Grid Sinisters...and I thought I'd never get away from Asics. They're lighter than the Asics and not much of a compromise with cushioning/comfort. In fact I may get another pair of them. |

Champion 5529 Nashville, TN | Subject: RE: Asics 2120 and Asics Kayano I just bought my 5th pair of Kayanos. I have 1 pair of 11s, 2 pair of 12s, 2 pair of 13s and 1 pair of the new 14s. I have had no problem getting 3-400 miles out of them. I did 750 miles last season in just two pair and still do my shorter runs in one of those pair. |

Veteran 218 | Subject: RE: Asics 2120 and Asics Kayano 2120s brought me back to life a few years ago, as far a running was concerned. I tried Kayanos this last time around, and I still chose the 2120s. That said the new 2120s make my feet more susceptible to blistering, especially at the medial longitudinal arch and the PIPs of my toes. |

Member 360 Denver, CO | Subject: RE: Asics 2120 and Asics Kayano I ran with the Asics 2110s without any issues but when I moved to the 2120 I had terrible terrible knee pain. I decided it was probably the shoe and changed to the Kayano and my knee pain magically disappeared. Road Runner Sports has many similar comments on their web site from people who changed from the 2110 to the 2120. Of course, your mileage may vary considerably from my experience. |

Extreme Veteran 380 Frome, (Nr Bath) Somerset | Subject: RE: Asics 2120 and Asics Kayano I had my gait analyzed by Asics at an exhibition and it was recommended that I try the Kayano as I over pronate quite a lot, and I do high mileage. I thought about it for a long time before spending the money on them but it definitely made a difference as lots of aches and pains I had been experiencing disappeared. I would buy them again and am thinking that it may be time for a new pair, but I'm not sure exactly how to tell whether they need replacing so have to take them to the running shop to have a look. |

Veteran 193 The Colony, Texas, USA, Earth | Subject: RE: Asics 2120 and Asics Kayano I recently switched from the Brooks Beast to the Asics Gel-Evolution3. I've only got 30 miles on 'em and can report that the Beast was too much of a corrective shoe for my pronation. I'll report back in 200 miles and let you know if I've found the right shoe. ha ha. I do like that they "grab" in the back moreso than the Beast does/did. |

Master 2571 Tiger's Den | Subject: RE: Asics 2120 and Asics Kayano Yeh, for now I'm gonna stick with the Asics. The New Balance shoes are too wide for me, the Brooks are too stiff, and the Mizunos don't last as long as the Asics. I used to be a heavier runner, now I'd say I'm average size. Like WaterDogg said, I pretty much retire them before I start having issues so that I don't run the risk of injury. At 250 miles I'm starting to really feel the aches and pains that I don't get from a newer shoe, so they get retired to walking around or ez short runs only. I like Asics because it has a narrow heel with a decent size toebox. I don't like the $$ but they are all pretty much gonna run you $60-$100. I try to find mine on sale and then use coupons to boot. I'll be curious to try the 2130s. I am glad to hear that perhaps the more expensive asics are not necessarily gonna last longer. Now, if I could just figure out how to get Asics to give me a pair in all their stability-ish styles so I can try them out, that would be perfect.... Interestingly to note: I've been evaluated 3 different times at 2 different running specialty stores. Neither store was able to find a shoe that worked really well for me. I had issues with the styles each one recommended. Although, to be fair, the last one I went to found a decent shoe (mizuno) that didn't give me a lot of problems, but wasn't cushy enough and didn't last long. The 21XXs I tried after reading in Runner's world about them and they have all served me well. So, I pay the $$. Thanks for all the info! |

Master 2202 St. Louis | Subject: RE: Asics 2120 and Asics Kayano I went from Kayano to 2120... and HATED the 2120s. I returned them the next day for Kayanos. The 2120s immediately felt like they were going to give me shin splints, and sore arches. On the other hand, I LOOOOOOVE Kayanos. To me, if you find a shoe that works for you, dont switch until the company stops making your shoe. |

Veteran 210 Portland, OR | Subject: RE: Asics 2120 and Asics Kayano The 2120's worked well for me but they did lack a little cushion. I’ve been in the 2130 for about 2 weeks and they feel much better. They have slightly more cushioning and they seemed to have changed the mid-foot and toe box slightly. I can’t tell if it’s wider or just a different last shape but it definitely fits me better. As always, the shoe reviews don’t make any difference if it doesn’t fit your foot or strike pattern. |

Elite 3371 | Subject: RE: Asics 2120 and Asics Kayano Having worn both, I liked the Kayano's WAY better. I wasn't comfotable in the 2120's. I'm not a big guy either, just have had problems with shin spints. |

Elite 2915 New City, New York | Subject: RE: Asics 2120 and Asics Kayano mentioned on the Gear Forum but it may be lost there by now. Kayano XI's are on sale at Road Runner for $85, second pair for $60. Good time to stock up if that's your shoe of choice, like me.
