Asics 2120 and Asics Kayano

The Kayano is a "Cushioned" Shoe while the 2110 is just a Stability Shoe.

The Kayano has more structure and materials that are designed to provide extra cushioning. The 2110 has less cushioning but what is there tends to be more durable. The 2110 is a bit over an ounce lighter owing to less matierial.

From my experience, if your only getting 250 out of the 2110/2120, I would be careful with the Kayano's. You may very well get less miles out of them before they go flat. This is because the extra cushioning seems to be less durable.

FWIW: I don't run in Asics any more because I found them to be very pricey compared to other brands and not very durable.

I've been using Asics 20xx for a while and am thinking the same thing.  What shoe are you using now?

I am currently running in:

Saucony Trigon 5 (350 Per Pair)
Brooks Burn 3 (300 Per Pair)
New Balance 826 (300 Per Pair)

Note: The mileage listed is the "Retirement Distance" and I can almost always get to that number without any adverse feeling. (I could maybe get a bit more, but why risk injury to save a few bucks)

I used to run in the ASIC Landreth and also the Numbus. Had durability problems with both but the Cumulus was really bad. (Barely 200 miles before going completely flat) 

To be fair to Asics, The Saucony Triumph and the New Balance 1060s (Both Cushioned Neutral) as similar durability issues as the Nimbus.

For me anyway, the moral of the story is to avoid the more expensive, heavier Cushioned Neutral Shoe. They feel great for the first 100 miles but tend to bite back very hard when they start to degrade. The basic Neutral Trainer and Neutral Performance shoes are all I am willing to buy these days.

Asics recently brought back the Kayano XI's. I like them better than the XII's. Seem a little lighter. I've been rotatating these two pairs and I'm pushing 400 miles on each. No issues but I guess it's time to order some new XI's.

Yeh, for now I'm gonna stick with the Asics. The New Balance shoes are too wide for me, the Brooks are too stiff, and the Mizunos don't last as long as the Asics.

I used to be a heavier runner, now I'd say I'm average size. Like WaterDogg said, I pretty much retire them before I start having issues so that I don't run the risk of injury. At 250 miles I'm starting to really feel the aches and pains that I don't get from a newer shoe, so they get retired to walking around or ez short runs only.

I like Asics because it has a narrow heel with a decent size toebox. I don't like the $$ but they are all pretty much gonna run you $60-$100. I try to find mine on sale and then use coupons to boot. I'll be curious to try the 2130s. I am glad to hear that perhaps the more expensive asics are not necessarily gonna last longer.

Now, if I could just figure out how to get Asics to give me a pair in all their stability-ish styles so I can try them out, that would be perfect....

Interestingly to note: I've been evaluated 3 different times at 2 different running specialty stores. Neither store was able to find a shoe that worked really well for me. I had issues with the styles each one recommended. Although, to be fair, the last one I went to found a decent shoe (mizuno) that didn't give me a lot of problems, but wasn't cushy enough and didn't last long. The 21XXs I tried after reading in Runner's world about them and they have all served me well. So, I pay the $$.

mentioned on the Gear Forum but it may be lost there by now. Kayano XI's are on sale at Road Runner for $85, second pair for $60. Good time to stock up if that's your shoe of choice, like me.
