Hey all:

Just wanted to say that VEGAS ROCKED!!! Joanna and I didn't make it back to our hotel room until between 2:30am and 5:00am every night! It was awesome.

We hooked up with a co-worker who happened to be in Vegas when we were there...that was fun to hang with her and her boyfriend.

Fremont Street light fest was crazy! How long have they had that street blocked off? I walked down that street when I was like 6 years old with my family back in 1976 and there was no roof over the whole street....that was CRAZY ! !

Ok, gambling? Damn, they really suck you into that man. Joanna and I are NOT gamblers (or so we thought). Once we got sucked in, there was no end to it. Luckly we were only down $110 at the end of the week . . . whew.

The strip was wild with all those hotels. I mean, each hotel is like it's own city! The Forum Shops (attached to Ceasar's Palace) is twice as big as last time I went there...and they are building another building full of hotel rooms. Man, it's good to be a developer in Vegas that's for sure!

The Grand Canyon? Man that place is still as awesome as I remembered it. We saw the sunrise (it was CCCOOOLLLLDDD) and the sunset (that was cold too) and hiked down the Kaibab trail a little bit until we could see an eastern view of the canyon. All I can say about this natural Wonder of the World is . . . WOW.

Oh, and the Hoover Dam? Man they got that place locked down tight now since 9/11. Road blocks at each end of the dam and now they're building a bypass highway so you don't have to drive over the dam....

I posted some photos from the trip in the Albums section if you wanna check them out.

Now....back to training....

If you lost "only" $110, I'd say you were a winner.

That's what everyone keeps telling me. Since we are not (actually WERE NOT) gambers we only planned on spending $50 to gamble because we figured, we didn't like gambing so why spend much more...but we also figured since we were in Vegas we HAD to gamble...it's like blasphemous or something if you go to Vegas and not gamble I'm sure.

But once the gambling but hit us we couldn't stop (kinda like my first hit of crack....just joking) then when we were down 100% more than we planned on spending I got a little freaked out.

When I came back home and realized the $100 is like losing nothing in Vegas I felt a bit better...

Sounds like a great time Steve. My son and I hiked down via the South Kaibab trail when we spent several days backpacking in the canyon...it is truly the best way to view it, to get away from the rim and see what it's like down below. South Kaibab trail is much more scenically expansive than the Bright Angel trail, where your view is restricted more since it's walled in a bit. You picked a good route! Glad to see you guys had great fun!

That is pretty cool.

What would be even cooler is if your name was Steve and your Husband's name was Joanna (ok, nevermind, maybe it wouldn't be that cool).

BTW, cute kids.

Steve,

Great to know you and missus had a good time. Isn't the downtown light show crazy?! I'm going to Vegas in Februray and can't wait to see it. I see it everytime I'm there. It's the best! It's like daytime at midnight. Glad you had fun. You didn't mention any treadmills or lap pools? Every hotel in Vegas has a pool that at least 50 meters it seems. You could get quite a workout if it wasn't for all the bathing beauties etc.

CAUTION: most pools are closed now in vegas...be sure to check prior to going in the winter. Also, you gotta pay everywhere to even get close to a tread mill. working out in veags sucks unless you get up early and run outside (waking up early was not in the agenda for Joanna and I in vegas....ha ha ha)

also, no offense to those who live in vegas but downtown is really really creepy/shady. we didn't feel comfortable there at all. if it wasn't for the light show we would have left as soon as we got there. it's kinda like spring break there but with 30-50 somethings that look like they are all shady. it has a weird feeling...lots of drunks and stuff.

anyway, the strip rocks, you never feel uncomfortable anywhere.

oh, if you go to the rio or the palms. that area (west of the expressway) is also shady. be careful that way too.

most of all HAVE FUN and gamble, gamble, gamble.

Thanks for the report, we're going tomorow night for a quick birthday weekend, seeing "O" at the Bellagio. I live 4 hours away, but only get there once a year at most, that's plenty of Vegas for me

Chris

IMHO Venetian is 10 times prettier/nicer than the Bellagio

Have fun at cirque de soilei (sp?) I heard O is great!

Steve, welcome back! Glad you guys had a great time. I was just in Vegas in April. Did an all-day ATV tour and the helicopter ride on the Grand Canyon. Definitely a great experience!
