Master 4119 Toronto | Subject: RE: Subaru Triathlon series It is? Maybe I didn't realize this was a motivation to do these events This year Ironman Canada was actually available on line for registration several days after it opened ... with more ironman events it seems it's easier to get in now. What is going to drop Muskoka attendance is moving the 70.3 WC to the same day next year ... bye bye high caliber pro's. |

I can't imagine that there are many who do Muskoka for the IMC spots. On-line registration for IMC is getting easier every year. Most 70.3 races had already lost their IM qualifier slots. Peterborough and Muskoka probably kept theirs a little longer because of the family connections. |

Expert 758 Port Colborne, Ontario | Subject: RE: Subaru Triathlon series Attendance was already down significantly in 2010 because of the new Syracuse 70.3 the following weekend. Personally, Syracuse is a closer race for me than Muskoka, but I thought I'd stay in Canada for my first HIM. |

Yep - I posted the same thing when it was announced that WC was moving to Vegas on "our" weekend. Screws up getting the pro's, plus if you qualify for Worlds, you need to wait an entire year to participate. Now, I have read a rumour that Muskoka 70.3 may just become Muskoka 140.6 - but we'll see. |

Super sad, it was sooooo cool seeing Craig Alexander and Mirinda Carfrae this year and last! I heard the same thing - which would be awesome ... for 2012. I want to do the 70.3 again next year!! |

If it stayed as a 70.3, and stayed on the same day, you would still get pros warming up for Kona in attendance: Carfrae, Alexander, Tissink, etc. And as a side note, Tissink did amazing in Kona this year, so I would expect to see him in Muskoka if it were to stay. |

Perhaps we will still see huge numbers at Peterborough, time will tell. |

IM Wisconsin is the same weekend as Muskoka, and is in the same region of North America, so that may play a role in the decision (if these rumors are in fact true) |

You'll still get the pros who are tuning up for Kona. Muskoka's problem is that it can get quite cold at that time of year. There are quite a few halfs within few weeks not too far away (which takes potential entrants away). Also the course is challenging (and long, 94km bike), so all those people wanting to post a fast time won't show up there. |

I thought that part of the rationale of moving the 70.3 championship was so that the pros could race both World Championships and have a shot at both larger purses. Plus, the move to Henderson, NV is a more challenging course than Florida - so I hear anyway. |

I expect we'd get second tier pro's who have a better chance at winning Muskoka since the heavy hitters are in Nevada. It also gives the big names a better shot at being a double world champ the same year (70.3 & 140.6) - they won't pass on that to race up here. |

The only reason I could see them staying is the saying "if it ain't broke then don't fix it" rule of thumb. That type of rule would mean Alexander might not come back (4th place in Kona), but for those pros who went to Muskoka, then performed well in Kona, there is some feeling that they should keep the same routine if it is working well for them. When I was in Muskoka at the Pro Panel meeting, Tissink did mention that his decision for coming to Muskoka was largely due to the fact that Alexander had been so successful in Kona with Muskoka as a prep race. I don't even know if Tissink did a 70.3 race before Muskoka, he just seems to do full IM's. |

Extreme Veteran 378 Acton, Ontario | Subject: RE: Subaru Triathlon series I personally email Janet Fraser. The response is as follows: "Yes we can confirm Muskoka 70.3 for Sept 12 and we will have qualifying spots for 2012 in Vegas. Hope that helps. Reg will open in Dec" So there you have it, Muskoka 70.3 continues, and will probably be the best place to go if you are looking at qualifying but are worried about getting near the top in your AG. |
