So a few weeks ago we had a local tri hear in Hendersonville TN. I had done a OLY the weekend before and knew I didnt want to do two back to back. So my son and I worked it (it is all about the free shirt). We got assigned to a portion of the bike route directing the flow.

No for the funny part. I saw two mountain (hibrids) with clip on aero bars go by...

I realize I am a little new to this sport but that scene just cracked me up, kind of like running shorts over bike shorts.

Please people NO AERO BARS on your mountain bike!!!!!

Any other thoughts???

Ride what ya got.

It's a lot cheaper to add clip-ons to an existing bike than splurge on a brand new tri bike.

If they're out there riding a bigwheel, I applaud them for getting out and doing it.

What Chris said. I did my first two tris on a hybrid and tried to get as 'aero' as possible by leaning down and forward. By mile 10 my arms and shoulders were killing me. Aerobars would have been a step up.

There's never shame in giving it your best shot with the resources available. If that's aerobars on a hybrid, then it's aerobars on a hybrid.

Did it look funnier than me trying to get aero on a hybrid without aerobars?

I'm in this boat...actually, even worse: the aerobars I got don't fit my handlebars! Eh, since I can't afford better right now, I'll get by with what I can.

As to being offended, why bother? I'm glad when people laugh. Those who laugh underestimate.

LOL!  And the truth comes out.  Maybe we need a new thread and take a vote on how many people have put aerobars on a mt. bike??  I bet there's more people out there than what we think!

Boy- since you got your fancy tri bike you've turned into a biking tri snob   You've been corrupted by all3sports!  I think I wouod laugh too if I saw that.  Although, more power to those on mt bikes- it's so much tougher!

This guy showed up once to a group ride on a mountain bike. We were going to do like 40-miles. We started off around 20-21 mph and there he was. I was thinking to myself.....yeah it's just a matter of time and we will be pulling you in........nope, this dude was strong. Even pulled a couple of times. Can you imagine seeing a pack of road bikes going down the road with a mountain bike leading the pack? It happened and we averaged right at 20 mph for the ride.

I must admit though.........he did not have aero bars.

Birthday girl,

I am not snobish enough to invite a fellow BTer to Chipotle's for lunch and to meet the others in the gang when he has traveled 4 hours to get a bike.

there once was a triathlete with a bike
that was set up more like a trike
they laughed loud and shrill
till they were passed up a hill
now all setups they find they really like.

editors note - Golfinggods...I know what you're saying. Any dollars should have been put in the kitty for a new road bike later, perhaps? But, you gotta do what you gotta do.

Ok- so you got me.  I think we need to discuss this topic offline.
