Extreme Veteran 3025 Maryland | Subject: Bernie Sanders Thread I love this guy. Love his platform, love his demeanor, love that he doesn't have wallstreet in his pockets. And I'm tired of talking about Hillary and Trump. So lets talk about the man, the myth, the legend....
I'm starting to think he has a shot in the primary, I know I'm voting for him, and almost everyone my age seems to think similarly (26 for the record). How does he feel where you guys live and among your peers? |

Who tells someone to turn down the beatles, and I'm too busy finishing my basement. But more seriously, I think he might be able to make progress on guns. He got stuff done in Maine, they like guns there. |

How does he feel where you guys live and among your peers? I'm 30, and I'm not sold on him. I don't see how he's going to be able to do everything he wants to do without costing tax payers in the long run. I also think he has zero chance of beating Hillary for the nomination. |

The republicans and the media will ultimately destroy Trump. The democrats will probably destroy Sanders. I'm thinking seeing four of these wahoos running for POTUS instead of two would be refreshing. Two party system is killing this country. Trump could found the Look at Me party, Bernie could go Indie and let Hillary and Bush run for the establishment parties. |

Champion 6993 Chicago, Illinois | Subject: RE: Bernie Sanders Thread I like a lot of what he says too but more importantly he is not like Obama or Hillary where he will say it to get elected and then no follow through because they really do not care. Sanders has to get a lot of early votes otherwise the I want to vote for a winner crowd might give Hillary a push. Edited by chirunner134 2015-09-11 5:41 PM |

He's so far out in left field (politically speaking) that he makes Obama look like Ted Cruz. The nation as a whole has not been very pleased with the hardline agenda of Obama the past 8 years, so I'm going to say it's pretty much a guarantee that they won't go further to the left. |

Biden, IMO, just doesn't have enough support outside of the Northeast... I can't see him winning a national election. Gore, maybe, but he's not interested. |

I agree with you and, while I like a lot of what Sanders is saying, I'm not sure he's electable and so the momentum he's gaining makes me a little nervous (much as I assume Trump's momentum is unsettling to Republicans, since I don't think he's electable either.). In the very early days of Bill Clinton's campaign, I remember an interview with James Carville. It was a long time ago, but basically the reporter was suggesting that Clinton's campaign was stalling and that he wasn't looking good for the nomination, much less the general election. Carville replied that "In politics, a week is a year, and we've got a lot of years left until the election." That's always stayed with me. I think, especially in today's 24-hour news cycle, there's a tendency to extrapolate out every tick up or down in every poll to the conventions and the primaries, and I still think, as I've said in a few posts already, that it's too early to tell. If Sanders (and Trump et al) are still hanging around in February, I'll start to pay attention. |

I honestly feel sorry for him because I feel he represents the Democrats better and if the Clinton controlled media weren't in his way he would be doing much better in the polls. I saw his speech the other day where he was bashing the media for getting no coverage at all and said something to the effect of "what do i have to do make a statement that I want to throw all the muslims out of the country to get on the news" Sadly, he probably does have to go the Trump route if he wants to get any cycles. |

One think I really like about him is against the money in politics. That alone I feel is the #1 issue in America today. It will not solve all our problems but I do not think anything will ever change until that does. |

Buttercup 14334 | Subject: RE: Bernie Sanders Thread As with the Cruz thread, I looked at Sanders' platform on his website before responding. I don't know any Sanders supporters. I don't talk politics with anyone except my husband, so I wouldn't know if I knew a Sanders supporter. I have no idea what his chances are. The early primary season will reveal, as it always does. I like Sanders' authenticity and many of his ideas. He seems like a decent human being. There are several ideas I can't get behind ($15 min wage, raising corporate income tax), but there are many that seem reasonable and positive. If elected, I think he would have zero chance of enacting many of his ideas. Congress will do the same thing they did during the last 6 years. We will have gridlock/stalemate. Any candidate that talks about specifics of how they would foster an economic climate that would bring jobs back to the US gets my attention. I think much of our national angst is driven by a sense of foreboding over a declining middle class. A robust jobs market would improve the mood, IMO. |

Agree Renee, jobs and the economy are way up on my list along with getting the corruption and waste out of our government. Funny story on Sanders. My middle son who is a freshman at Iowa State University was talking to me a week or two ago and mentioned the the really likes Sanders and wondered what I thought of him. My son is by far the most conservative of any of my kids, so I asked him if he realized he was a very liberal Democrat and he had this confused look on his face. lol Believe it or not, I truly want my kids to come to their own conclusions so I went to his website and went through most of his positions and there were things that both of us liked and things that both of us didn't like, so it was a fun experience for him. The part that I thought was funny was how Sanders is appealing to younger kids and doing it in a way that he's not a "Democrat", he's just a man on a mission and very passionate about it. I disagree with him on several key issues, but I genuinely like the guy. |

Poor guy is treated like he's not even in the race. Yeah, I read an article last night about Trumps lead over the next highest competitor as being substantially higher than Hillary's over Bernie, but the Democratic race is "done and over" while the Republican race is wide open according to the media. I think if Bernie got 1/10 of the coverage Trump does he'd be giving Hillary a run for her money. |
