Pre-race routine:

Ran a 1/2 marathon.
Event warmup:

Jess, Aaron and I go back to the hotel to get Chippy, then go to packet pickup to get her race number. Big mess and hassle here, but its not important. Sit in traffic for over 30 minutes, we were late, didn't get to the race site until 11am-start time--haul ass to get our costumes on, Jess was Daisy, I was Donald, then waddled quickly to the start line. Apparently everyone else in Orlando was trying to get to the 5k so they delayed the start! YES! We had 5 minutes to goof around and take pre race pictures.

*My mental estimated finish time: 45 mintes*
Aaahhh...After a crowded washing machine start-oh wait, this is a run. After a crowded start, we had to walk for several minutes to get away from all the families. It was really cold so we tried to jog for a couple minutes, but that wasn't really working out. We walked more and more and Aaron just had to deal with it. What a sight to see, 2 ducks and a guy in a tri top and short running shorts carrying a flag in 45 degree weather! Being trailed by a normal looking girl with a camera (chippy-her costume didn't come in time :( ) The first mile consisted of us stopping at least 3 times to take pictures with people! Ha! I was really suprised by this, being Disney, I didn't think Donald and Daisy would look out of place. More laughing at ourselves, me getting a phone call which they found hilarous. I didn't, but I answered anyway. So goes the reputation...Somewhere around this time, oh, right after the Christmas tree, I think it would be a good idea to give Daisy a piggy back ride; again, more people stopping and staring, Good stuff. Mile 1.5ish...we're in Mexico!..."Hey, look at the margarita stand! Wouldn't that be awesome!?" I ask the gentleman "hey, are you open??" He is!! Oh, wait, theres no place in our costumes for money. Crap. Chippy says "I have a card!!" Yippie!! Margaritas all around! Things go even more downhill from here...We get passed by a bunch of people while we're waiting for our drinks, more laughing. We get on our way again, I think its understood we're not going to run anymore. We're walking along around the lake, look over, there's some ducks walking on the shore! Jess, lets go find our dates! Apparently we were smoking something because Jess and I really wanted some funnel cakes. Why do those only sound good at parks? No time to get a funnel cake, we're already way behind our pace. What other funny things can we do in our costumes, I wonder? Phone booth? Check. Scaring little kids? Check. Getting tipsy at Disney? Check.

By mile 2.8-3 we were pulling up the rear of the race. Wouldn't DFL be funny?! Aaron wouldn't have any of that and made us speed up a little bit. We get close to the finish line and more people want to take our pictures. Right before the finish! Then there was Goofy and we couldn't pass him up either. Then Chip and Dale! Go Chippy, Go Chippy!!...a couple minutes of awesome picture taking and were finally ready to finish. There is no one in the stands...maybe about 5 spectators...
Aaron and I decide to sprint to the finish (jess stands to the side crying and trying not to pee her pants). Duck v. Flag boy. Its neck and neck, I can really move in that suit...Flag boy takes a cheap shot and throws me off balance and to the ground! *GASP* Flag boy thinks he wins, I think he cheated. Whatever.
*finish time: 1:10:00*
What would you do differently?:

Bring money to get more drinks.
Post race
Warm down:

Got our medals, 2nd of the day. Waddled back to the car as people stared at us.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My big ass. Margaritas. Laughter.
Not that we really cared to go faster anyway.

Event comments:

We all PR'd on this course! Whoo hoo! Our worst 5k time... :)

This was my second costumed race. I really am enjoying goofing off at races and not caring about when you finish and just enjoying the course.

She did (for one night, I think).
The rest of us are going to have to cover it -- we wouldn't stick Jess with that whole bill!

Haley, I hope this doesn't stop Aaron from letting me put his flag up on my porch for the Houston party, but... the Duck *clearly* takes it. Congratulations!

Hmmm yes, I don't have that problem and would like to add:

That is so uncool to stiff anyone for your room reservation! I am a big nerd so to be called uncool by me is the epitome of uncool!

Then Chip and Dale! Go Chippy, Go Chippy!!...

Forgot to mention this earlier -- for my first Chipanddale experience, I was slightly disappointed. They showed very little skin.

Amazing...that much dexterity and brain power AFTER running a half marathon that morning!

For the record, I LOVE the margarita stand at Epcot...many happy memories.
