I'm signed up for June 15th and looking ahead to it. I was wondering if there are any campsites on Saanich Penninsula or will I need a hotel?

And, come race day any suggestions for parking? I used to live in Central Saanich and I don't recall a lot of parking at Elk Lake.

Also like to hear any chatter on the bike (fast or slow; windy or calm) and run course.

Who else is signed up?

I have no idea about campsites, but I stayed at the Cherry Tree Inn last year.  Not much to look at from the inside, but room was clean, owner was fantastic and prices totally reasonable.  Very close to Elk Lake.  Parking was short at the venue for sure.  We parked ('illegally') at a local business that was closed on race day.  The bike is hilly and there was some cross wind on the flat section.  Run is mostly flat on trail around the lake.  Not headed there this year simply due to other races--I would do the race again for sure.

Hope this helps and good luck!

I just started doing tris this summer and I have two under my belt, both sprints. Is it reasonable to build up for a Oly in early ā€˜09, with a HIM in Oct of ā€˜09

I just had a couple of problems, I could count the number of triathlons I had contested at zero. Secondly, I could count on one hand the number of times I had been swimming in the last 17 years.

I will assume you have not run consistently more than 6 miles and have never completed a half-marathon. I believe running your first half-marathon is a big task which requires dedication and work.

This half Ironman plan covers many weeks of challenging, but attainable training for someone who has some endurance experience, and ideally some Olympic distance races within the past season.
