Expert 1394 Wilmington, NC | Subject: RE: Beach2Battleship Half Iron Distance Triathlon : Official Thread quite a few people over on the Full B2B thread are doing the HIM, me included. Last year weather was not good, but that is the only year of 4 that it has been bad throughout. Morning weathr is not normally a problem for the HIM because it starts at 8:30am. The worst part is that T1 closes at 6:30am, so you then have to stand aound in cold temps till the HIM start (unless you come up with another plan) Obv this year the race is way earlier so the problem could be that it gets warm during the run. |

I am hoping to do White Lake International in Sept as well and then B2B HIM. White Lake is a pretty cool venue, but read a few race reports on WL Half before you jump in based on your upcoming Sept experience. |

Plenty of time to train if you haven't been doing so consistently! Is there? Really? Even for somebody who's never done this distance? I'm looking at my graphs and am way under volume and I'm not doing a high volume plan to begin with. Is 3 months enough time to 'catch up'? It's pitiful - my plan is only 2/3/3 and I'm not even hitting all of those workouts. Thinking maybe I need to stick to the international distance...Thoughts? |

d00d is a little north of N. Florida in Fayetteville, NC. Well sorta near Fayettville. If people want to get together to ride on the course I am open to trying to get together. You can ride the 1st 9mi from T1 to the interstate but would need to do that early morning because that section is on busy roads. Best bet is to basically pick up the course at about 21mi, as it comes off the intersate onto 421. You can then ride the rest of the course so basically last 35mi of course. If you start at the battleship (easy parking etc) you will do about 40mi if you go up 421 to the HIM turn around. Edited by qrkid 2012-07-22 10:06 AM |

As long as I have done events there is always some sort of processing fee for online reg regardless of if it is Setup or any other company. Sucks but it is what it is. |

It's pitiful - my plan is only 2/3/3 and I'm not even hitting all of those workouts. Thinking maybe I need to stick to the international distance...Thoughts? 3 months is enough time to train to finish comfortably. I think you can have a decent race with 8 hours a week. I might suggest a little bit more cycling than 3 hours a week, though. You probably want to ride longer than the distance you're going to be racing! Now that we're a little less than 3 months out, you need to focus on hitting your workouts, though! Don't slack. You'll pay for it during a HIM. You also need to make sure your nutrition is on during this time. You're going to have a long, very uncomfortable race if you don't! My volume, as of late, is around your volume. I definitely plan to increase to at least 10-12 hours a week during August and September. Good luck! |

Yes, I'm out in Pinehurst, which is about 30 miles west of Fayetteville, and about 3 hours west of Wrightsville Beach. I'll talk to the wife about a weekend trip to WB and post some possible dates in which I'll be available. Happy training! |

New user 5 North Carolina | Subject: RE: Beach2Battleship Half Iron Distance Triathlon : Official Thread Thanks, d00d. Sounds like neither of us are miles- (or minutes-) crazed. I'm trying to learn to train intuitively, but that's hard at a new distance. Anyway, I was having a bit of a crisis of conscious this weekend, but one thing I noted is that I'm not smoked after my long workouts or anything. I feel like I'd be hurting on them if my lack of volume was really an issue...I rode 36 miles Sunday which is further than my plan called for. Plus, my goal is just to finish with a smile on my face! At the risk of sounding over-confident...I feel like I have a pace (albeit slow) that I can sustain for a good long while with proper nutrition. So we'll see what happens. I haven't registered yet - I guess I better get on it...I think it's down to around 200 slots. Happy Training, all! |

Expert 1010 Greer, SC | Subject: RE: Beach2Battleship Half Iron Distance Triathlon : Official Thread Hey everyone! I just sent an email to the RD to find out the max # of racers. I am currently signed up to do IMLOO but have had quite a bit of trouble getting my training in and most recently had a major mechanical issue with my bike that has left me without wheels for almost a month. Therefore I'm thinking about ditching that race and signing up for B2B. Luckily my training has left me right around the HIM distances and have heard great things about the B2B races. Not to mention flat roads instead of hills!!! If you are looking to hook up with some nice and knowledgeable people, check out Trysports in Mayfaire. I think they do group runs on Wed and rides on Sundays. |

Extreme Veteran 1942 In front of computer when typing this. | Subject: RE: Beach2Battleship Half Iron Distance Triathlon : Official Thread Hey, no-one told me there was a half thread! Sheesh, can't trust anyone these days :-) I am in for the half too. I had a bit of a slow training month in July so really need to ramp things up. Turns out that qrkid and I are in the same age group (read: old guys). My only problem is that he runs faster than I do with one leg tied around his head! I'm thinking about doing the WL international as well...only problem is that I really don't like going to White Lake. Did the half twice and its definitely not my favorite part of NC. Still, an OLY a month before the HIM with similar terrain might be a good idea! |
