I was curious what everyone stores in their desks for snack time during the day. I know nuts and trail mix are good, but what other ideas do you have?

I don't leave my desk for lunch very often so I'm usually stuck with a PB sandwich or some other sandwich variety. What other easy lunch ideas are there that are healthy and easy to prepare? I do have access to a fridge at work.

If I can get away with it and not off the people who sit nearby, I like having tuna near. Also, almonds and pb&j are big for me.

My favorites for avoiding the snack machine of death include:

triscuts, celery w/ peanut butter, peanut/craisin mixture, kashi TLC dark choc/cherry granola bars

It  varies with me depending if it is a workout day(weights or tri work) or an off day.
Workouts days, I drink a Met-Rx MRP and eat a 1/2 cup brown rice in the morning break, 8oz. 93% hamburger, raw veggies and a piece of fruit for lunch, 2 pkgs. tuna and a sweet potato for afternoon break.
Non-workout days, I replace the rice with a banana and the hamburger with 10oz. talapia.

I prepare my weeks food on Sunday, so it is all ready to go throughout the week. I eat a very clean, strict diet, six days a week. Cheat day is on Saturday.
If you have a microwave at work too, all this would work for you too.

Fresh fruit is good - apples, oranges, bananas, grapes, pretzels are low carb, Cliff bars are good (habit forming to me!) - but are packing 280 some odd calories.

I bought a variety box of Cliff Bar mini's.  There great.  Only 100 calories, and I canhave one just before / after a work out.  Here is a nint though:

A box of 6 full size costs 6 bucks
a box of 18 mini's costs 11 bucks

The mini,(I swear to god) is just a regular bar cut into thirds... I have been buying the regular size, cutting them into thirds and packing them in plastic wrap.  I bring 2 a day.  One for late afternoon snack and 1 for pre workout snack.  2oo calories total, but gives you the right nutrition (as long as you have eaten well during the day)

I just discovered the Clif Bar mini's, they're perfect for snacks.  100 calories and they come in variety packs (brownie, chocolate chip and peanut butter).  $10.99 at Target for 18 bars

Oh man! I always thought they only did the mini sized bars to give to race organizers for rest stops. I always fill my pockets when it seems like they have enough to go around and lament the fact that 1) I can't buy the minis and 2)i'm too lazy to cut the full size ones up.

I may have to consider looking at target for the minis next time... or get over the laziness factor and start packaging my own minis! (i wonder if they sell the Luna minis...they are my favorites!)

I always have a jar of PB at my desk--the all natural kind, it's literally just crushed peanuts and you can get the salted or unsalted version.  I'll have either celery, carrots or an apple with the PB at my desk twice a day.  I also bring yogurt quite a lot, sometimes a banana, and if I wake up a little run down/tired/extra hungry--usually comes after a few tough training days in a row--and I'm also training that day I'll bring a Clif Bar or two.I always plan for two snacks a day, and if I'm not hungry I'll skip the yogurt/Clif Bar and just have the fruit/PB.

Muesli bar, fruit, peanut butter and egg sandwich.

Noodles and tuna already made (don't really need heating up, it tastes alright cold).

baby carrots most days, misc fruit (apples, cherries, plums, grapes, berries) and I keep a container of unsalted peanuts on my desk.

If that is not enough my office is 2 miles from home and I go make a tuna sandwich, today it was turkey since I had some.

Do you have access to a microwave? Maybe try cooking extra food at dinner so you can have the leftovers for lunch the next day.

Natural peanut butter on an apple works for me as an afternoon snack a couple of hours before I leave work for my afternoon workout.

I usually bring the following to work every day:
Apple
Orange
Banana
Boiled Egg

I usually eat one every couple of hours, or as I  feel snacky.

Snacks for me:

Fruit
Yogurt
Clif Mojo bar
Luna bar
Skim Milk
Nuts
Sugar-free chocolate pudding

Those are the items I do not microwave. I actually microwave a 10:00 AM snack and lunch.

YES...they do!! Once again, Target carries the Luna mini's variety box...same price I believe, as the Clif mini's.

You can BUY Clif minis???!!!! OM-freakin'-G you just made me INCREDIBLY happy!!! I love stashing Clif Bars and gels in my search and rescue pack, since they last forever and you never know how long you'll be out (or if you have time to grab food before heading out). I can't stand eating a whole Clif bar, though, makes me gag, and I always wanted the minis that I've scored various places. I am SO driving two hours to the nearest Target TOMORROW!!!!
