Veteran 237![]() ![]() ![]() Buffalo Grove | Subject: Love my NewtonsOk a little over a month ago I bought my first pair of Newtons to see what they were all about. Did my first three mile run in them and liked them. Did another three miles in them and still thought that they were good shoes. A few days before IM Louisville I tought to myself that I might as well wear them during the marathon. I have been injured all summer and figured that it would be a long walk anyway so what would this hurt. I now LOVE my Newtons and they will be my shoe of choice from now on. I had a good marathon (only 2 minutes slower than last year when I was able to train). The shoes felt great. I know I broke a big time rule against trying new things during a race but this time it worked out. |

They do take some time to get used to, and they will cause you to change your running style to a forefoot style, but I've run my fastest (and most comfortable) miles in them. If you're military (as I've mentioned before), you can get them for a reduced price ($99 or so, plus shipping). They are/will be coming out with a trail running version, and that will be exciting to try out. |

Has yours ever done that? btw, the newton site says these shoes are not made for treadmills! as for running down hills, i find that if it's really steep, then i have to heel strike to slow down a bit and that it does feel odd... the only other issue i have is that i am not very confident in the grip of the shoe when i'm running on a wet surface. i always feel like i'm going to slip. |

I brought my old ones to the Newton tent at IM Canada to ask questions about my wear pattern and more. Two different folks looked at them and said I had near perfect wear pattern and that I probably toed off a bit much running. The difference between the wear pattern of my first vs my 6th pair is huge. I took 4 months off wearing them this spring, but tried them again and found I was faster by a smidge and my legs felt so much better after long runs. |

But if someone likes them and they work for them, fantastic. I've been tempted to contact newton about it since its never happened to me with any other shoe. Currently I plan on trying out the NB fore front shoes if I can't find a solution. |

Yeah, I was going to ask how Newtons cause sombody to change their running stride by simply putting on a pair of shoes? |

(Just don't fool yourself into thinking they make you run any different than other shoes and don't blame me when you get an injury from f'ing up your natural stride). x2, as you know. Great shoe's if they work for you. No better or worse than a lot of high end shoe's on the market. They DO NOT make you this magical forefoot runner, however. Forefoot running is a myth. You run they way you do, all that matters is that you land with your foot beneath your body, heel, mid or fore, doesn't matter. Newtons don't create that, YOU DO. I ran in them for a while and found them too structured without enough forefoot cushioning for me. ..sound about your opinion, Rick. |

Not to mention that there is NO risk of getting banned from the site when Bryan tells if for ya.... LOL I was at City Sports in Philly yesterday getting Zoot Compression Calf stuff. Happened to head back to the shoe section and they had Netwon there. I never tried them on. So I gave it a go yesterday and just walking around felt very natural for me. I was shocked because they look kind of akward. A lot of you know I have had a ton of lower body injuries and inbalances. I spoke to the guy about running in them but that was a no go. Plus running down Wallnut St. in the city at high noon would be a bit odd... Lunch time sidewalk traffic is nuts... Truth be told if someone gave me a pair I would give them a try. But for $160+...it's just not worth it. What I did notice was that as Bryan said. Not a lot of toe box support at all. Very thin through the front of the shoe even with that "platform" thing. As I'm 190-195 a more structured shoe works better for me. So I am not going to pi$$ the $160 away on this shoe. As other's have said; you run the way your body is and was designed to run. Not the way some shoe tries to make you run...I think there is a lot of thuth in that statement. |
