Um, you're being a little generous revoking his visa... I would say "existance" Not that I'm any kind of gift to this world, but I can't stand the guy. And I rarely say that about people that haven't had at least 15 minutes to convince me that they suck

I would argue we need more civility and patience.

 I can only hope that was a lame attempt at humor.

When you come across a street fight or bar brawl without guns and knives, let me know.  Bar brawls tend to be fought with bottles. A broken beer bottle is a hole saw for people. Booze bottles usually don't break and are about the most effective truncheon there is.

I remember the South Park episode, where he wants to fight everybody.  Good actor, but needs work on people skills.

Shattered ... Russell Crowe after his arrest / AP SHATTERED actor Russell Crowe has bared his soul to The Daily Telegraph, saying the violent incident that could see him jailed was entirely his fault.

In an exclusive interview, Crowe spoke of his shame over the altercation, but insisted he was "not aiming at" concierge Nestor Estrada when he threw a telephone in the lobby of an exclusive New York hotel.
He conceded that the incident may not only see him locked away in a New York jail, but could prevent him from ever working in the US again.

He blamed his state of mind on "the combination of jet lag, loneliness and adrenalin", having just returned to the US after a flying visit to London for the Kostya Tszyu fight, without wife Danielle.

"I'm at the bottom of a well. I can't communicate how dark my life is right now," Crowe said. "I'm in a lot of trouble. I'll do my best to solve the situation in an honourable way. I'm very sorry for my actions."

Holed-up in a New York hotel room and missing his family just a day after his arrest, he added: "I will spend the rest of my life if it takes it, trying to make it up with my wife.

"I'm pleased that my son isn't able to compute what's going on at the moment because that would be a heartbreaking thing."

The Oscar-winning actor was arrested on Monday for allegedly assaulting Mercer Hotel clerk Mr Estrada, 28, who needed stitches for a facial cut, after Crowe threw a phone when an attempt to call his wife failed.

He was charged with assault and criminal possession of a weapon - a telephone - and faces up to seven years in prison.

The actor was released after a brief appearance in a Manhattan court later that morning and ordered to appear again on September 14. A security camera tape from the Mercer Hotel lobby is being examined by authorities.

"One thing that I don't want to do is imply that I'm trying to make out it's somebody else's fault," Crowe said. "It's not, I know it's my fault, I've got to face up to it and deal with it.

"I'll cop whatever I cop."

Crowe had flown from New York to Manchester and back in less than a day to catch his friend Tszyu's world title fight. Once back in New York he went to a bar for a few drinks.

Crowe then tried to call Danielle in Sydney just after 4am New York time but could not reach her from his $3905 a night hotel room.

Frustrated, he is alleged to have gone down to the hotel lobby and, after a heated exchange, hurled the phone in the direction of Mr Estrada.

"I wasn't aiming at him," Crowe said, adding that he did not wish to go into detail about the incident because it is now a legal matter.

"But I've got no excuses.

"There's nothing you can say to people to explain the combination of jet lag, loneliness, adrenalin.

"We flew over to see Kostya and back again in 20 hours and not being able to tell your wife that you're home and safe and you're okay is frustrating, particularly with the time thing."

The enormity of his situation is not lost on the Gladiator star. He said: "I'm not trying to be pessimistic, I'm just looking at what the situation is - it's a seven-year jail sentence."

He is also aware his fate now lies in the hands of Mr Estrada.

"It's not his fault," Crowe admitted. "The only hope I've got is to rely on his good graces. I wouldn't imagine that he's in a position where he feels any obligation to do anything nice and I can understand that position completely.

"It's a bad situation, but it could possibly have been worse and I'll just have to deal with it."

The assault charge could also put his US visa at risk, threatening his future in Hollywood.

"The whole travelling thing might be a moot point because of the simple fact that I wouldn't be able to work in America in the future," he said. "That'll be that."

Rather than flee home to Australia to be with his wife and son, Crowe has chosen to stay in the US and fulfil media commitments scheduled to promote his latest film, boxing movie Cinderella Man, including an appearance yesterday on The Late Show with David Letterman.

Crowe is expected to return home in two weeks.

It's real easy to be apologetic after you've talked to your attorney. Like we need another idiot like him in the public eye...isn't Michael Jackson enough?

I agree with you Renee. I think he is going for the sympathy vote here. I personally think that some people have a very hard time learning that there are consequences for every action. They have maybe been sheilded from those consequences in the past. That does not in the end do anyone any favours. I think he should suffer the reasonable and just consequences and take the opportunity to learn from his mistakes. He may just come out the other end a better person for it.

Had this been you or me, we would have spent at least one night courtesy of the local lock up with a nice mugshot and fingerprint ink as a reminder of our visit.........plus an encore performance in fronnt of the local magistrate.  What puts a movie/sports/wealthy figure above the law???

It certainly doesn't excuse his behavior, but say it with me.........."Publicity Stunt!"  I think he should've thrown a glass slipper instead, though. More befitting of the movie. And I'm sure the guy that got hit has been amply compensated for the damage and wrongdoings done unto him. Nonetheless, Russell throws phones, Tom and Katie look like fools on every talk show they go on. Coincidence that 'ol Rusty and Kate are in the news so much lately? Methinks not.

I was listening to Jim Rome this morning, and heard that Russell Crowe and George Clooney are bitter (might be harsh word) enemies?

And as we all know, people worth tens of millions of dollars with staff working for them all across the world have very limited communications capabilities in this day and age.

I like how he refers to his victim as 'Nestor'. I'm sure he always addresses service employees by their first names.

Hissy fits are soooo first grade. I hope he gets deported. THAT would be funny. Of course, Mr. Estrada could go the "non-citizen-enemy-combatant" route and have Crowe sent to some military prison where he is never heard from again. THAT would be even funnier.

How many times did he try to use the phone in his room? If it didn't work after the 2nd or 3rd time, you've got to be fairly 'tarded to keep trying what you're trying and expect different results. Any chance he could have had one of his minions call the front desk and ask for help? Or perhaps have one of his minions read the international calling directions on the phone to him?

I hate to sound harsh, but I really don't like the guy or any of his movies or...

Besides, if Wifey can't trust you to stay out of trouble for 20 hours there is definitely something wrong. She should just buy the joker one of those house arrest anklets. Actually, I'm such a big fan, that I'd be willing to pony up the tax money for the FBI to fit him with one.
