Subject: Soon to be Bride Question: Tan lines
Definitely not looking for reasons not to go to a tanning bed however.... Also not doing the mystic tan thing.

How many times do you think you need to go to a tanning bed to get rid of a 10 year old sports bra tan line before your wedding? Luckily I'm not that tan right now to begin with, but... I was made fun of a lot at my brother's wedding when I wore a halter dress, in fact they took pictures of it.

Any thoughts?

I was an October Bride and I made sure that, despite training all year for 2 or 3 tri's, I did not tan at all that year.   I am very fair, and have generally been careful, but that year I was militant - sun screen, long sleeves (cool max stuff) hats, sun glasses.....

If you are scarred by many years of tanning in a sports bra, you probably have no  chance of erasing it the tan or "matching it" with some tanning bed time, so either cover up or say "I am woman, hear me roar and see my tan lines" and don't worry about it.  Weddings can make you crazy anyway, so try not to sweat the small stuff.

I am very against tanning beds, however, Spokes is a man and might not understand. I highly doubt that in 10 years you want to look at your wedding photos and think "look at those ugly tan lines!"

I would make sure to wear TONS of sunscreen this summer to avoid the tan lines. Then maybe in Sept. hit the tanning bed or home tanners a couple times. I was a May bride and had several years of lifeguarding and sports bra tan lines that went away in time. I think I tanned for only 1 month, maybe 2.

Good luck.

I would try a spray on tan rather than a tan bed.  The spray ons have been around for a few years and they might be able to even things out.  I run with Mrs. Houston and she uses an OTC spray tan - Sally Hensen I believe.  This one is very temporary but it's her favorite.  You might want to give it a try.

i think this is your best bet...tanning (whether in a bed or a spray booth) over tan lines will not make them go away...avoid the tan lines in the first place at all costs!!!

It's soon... 17 days and I don't want the spray on stuff to get on my dress. I've been wearing 50spf all year, and well it's still there. And to be honest 1 day of vanity isn't going to kill me. I'm guessing 2-3 times for 2-3 minutes, maybe...

I think they only allow training naked in NY or maybe that's just going topless on the subway

2-3 minutes in a tanning bed won't do anything for you...the spray will NOT get on your dress if you do it 2 or 3 days in advance.  all the excess comes off in the shower.  (you WILL get tan on whatever you wear day one)  i love spray tans!!!

I like seeing those tan lines from training on women. It is like a badge of honor. Wear them proudly, and if any man tries to make fun of you, draw upon your tri training.

My thought is why does it matter whether you have a tan line or not?

The sports bra tan line is a part of who you are! Be proud.

And don't invite the people that made fun of you, because obviously they don't respect who you are. Why would you want people in your life - let alone your wedding - that can't be more positive towards you?

Well stated!!!

I did a spray tan about 5 days before the wedding to even out tan lines.  It did not get on the inside of my dress.  If you find a place that will airbrush it for you, it works better than the booth you stand in.

oh yes, do NOT go mystic tan.  it HAS to be the way where an actual person spray paints you.

As a guy, I agree about the "who cares about tan lines" part.

But, if I had written off/not invited to my wedding everyone who had ever made fun of me... there wouldn't have been anyone at my wedding!  I think the whole "making fun of = no respect for" thing is a little over the top.

I'm assuming your dress is strapless and you're not wearing a veil? And your hair will be up? Otherwise the tan lines would be covered up, no?

Not sure what to tell ya... if you "spray on" over the problem area only, your problem area will be 3x tanner than the rest of your exposed skin. So you'll have to spray over everything. Which is a pain. I don't think you have enough time to make a difference in the tanning bed.

Best bet would be to spray over everything, starting NOW, and maintain till the wedding.
Or just don't worry about it.

I did the spray tan the day before my sister's wedding.  The next morning in the shower, all the excess came off and left no residual marks on anything...even with her wedding being rainey, humid and such.  It worked like a pro!  Make sure you get a nice one.  I asked around who looked more orange and who was more bronze.
