I know this verges on tooting my own horn and I apologize to those who may be sick of hearing about it, but I was really stoked this morning to learn that my documentary "The Distance: A Triathlete's Journey" received its first independent review (that I'm aware of) this morning. I think it's pretty dead on, even the "Con's". You can read it here:

http://www.chicagonow.com/blogs/pace-of-chicago/2009/06/the-distanc...

I also want to take this opportunity to thank all of you here at BT, and especially Ron, for the tremendous support and encouragement you have given me and this project. You guys are the best and have helped make this experience one I'll always treasure. Thank you so much and thanks also to djdavey, tripletmom01 and mutri for allowing me to share their personal journeys with so many others!

Well done, and a good review. I'm sure you are more than proud. I'm beginning to venture into doing an IM. I should probably view this and include the wife so we both know whats upcoming.

Congratulations!  I agree with much of the review, especially the good parts.  I bought a copy after hearing about it around here and am so glad.  I lent it to a friend training for IMWI this year and he talked about it nonstop the next time I saw him and has loaned it out to other friends.  I hope I get it back some day I'll encourage him to get his own copy!  While I am not usually one to buy DVDs, I don't regret even one cent of this purchase.

It did take me two days to watch, but like the reviewer I was excited to come back and finish the whole story.  I even resisted looking for Tammy, Dave, and Josh's race reports so that I could experience the full suspense.  While I have no interest in pursuing an Ironman race myself, it was very interesting to me just as a triathlete.

Great job and I am sure you will see ongoing success with this movie.

My only mistake was letting my wife see it... She has expressly forbidden me to train for an IM unless my work schedule changes drastically--currently I'm around 80hrs/week...

I ordered and watched the DVD.  Really interesting to see 3 people go through the ups and downs of training.  Enjoyed it very much.  Would love to hear how the 3 subjects are doing now and whether they are still planning to do IM Wisconsin this year.  Certainly worth the money.  Great way to pass the time while riding on trainer/rollers.

I have it on "good" authority that all three have signed up and are planning to do MOO again this year.

As to how each is doing (tri-related), I can only speak to DJDavey....saw him riding this weekend. He looked slow (jk, Davey)...his run is looking impressive, as always.

There's a link in the review, but as someone who didn't know about this until today I found myself wondering "Where's the link to the DVD?!" So, here it is:

I saw Tripletmom at Horribly Hilly Hundreds this past weekend and her stomach and hind end still are quarter bounceable. Nice job Rich. I need to get a copy.

Already own it and the review is pretty spot on. Loved watching the three different lives tackle the ironman training. The ending was great as well getting a look at IMWI with all the AGers out on the course.

I bought "The Distance" last week and thought it was great.

The reviewer thought it was too long, but I loved every minute of it. "The Distance" is what I hoped "What It Takes" would of been. Maybe I related to the age groupers in "The Distance" much better.

The cortisone injection scene made my jaw drop and I'm not afraid of needles at all.

got the DVD earlier this summer.  Loved it, and thought it did a nice job of showing what it take to get to the starting line of an IM.

Nice job!!
