Subject: Mr. Whipple
Y'know, I was watching Smokey and the Bandit with my sons and one question they had just flummoxed me:

"Why did they have to have someone run interference just because they were taking beer East?"

Holy cow, all the little stuff that are society memes that no longer exist. Bootlegging Coors was an alien concept to them.

Who shot JR?

Still really common for doctors in hospitals because they don't interfere with the telemetry equipment on some floors.

At least a couple times a week I holler "Hold on Fred!" to my girls sitting in the back of my Suburban.  IIRC, the actual quote is a little more colorful.

Definitely still made. You can even get a bluetooth CB with external speaker and remote mic so you can pair your phone to it. Federal regulation prohibits a truck driver from reaching for/holding a cell phone. There's a button on the hand-held mic that you push to activate the phone mode. No, you don't have to hold the mic and push the button to use the phone, but you do when using the CB function. It's still a useful tool for OTR drivers.

My friend was hit in the head with a Jart when she was a little girl, and was part of the class action suit that eventually led to them being taken off the market.

It's her claim to fame, if you will...

While I sympathize with whatever pain and/or injury she incurred...I just have to say, she was responsible for taking one of the best games ever off the market.

I can provide fresh blood for that extra $10 no problem. But I think I'll keep them. The plastic appears brittle with age, I dout they'd do well on impact. They are a great display piece. But if my declutering process gets as far as those, I'll remember to put them up here first.

Just something to think about:

http://www.cpsc.gov/en/Newsroom/News-Releases/1997/Following-Recent...
Federal law bars any person from selling products subject to a publicly-announced voluntary recall by a manufacturer or a mandatory recall ordered by the Commission.

After a recent serious injury caused by a lawn dart, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission reissued its warning that lawn darts are banned and should be destroyed. Effective on December 19, 1988, CPSC banned the sale of all lawn darts in the United States. Pointed lawn darts, intended for use in an outdoor game, have been responsible for the deaths of three children. The most recent injury occurred last week in Elkhart, Ind., when a 7-year-old boy suffered a brain injury after a lawn dart pierced his skull.

"CPSC banned lawn darts in 1988, but some of these dangerous products may still be in garages, basements, or second-hand stores," said CPSC Chairman Ann Brown. "Parents should destroy these banned lawn darts immediately."

Well, not to go in another tangent, but that is actually a danger to others. But the jarts can't be the only thing of a shady nature I've bought from a flea market. Today though, I felt like a real radical when I placed an order for a case of raw milk butter, which is still not to be sold in Pa though we have one of the friendliest states for raw milk in the US. A paper slip, an Amishman, and I am breaking the law ordering food.
