I am thinking about getting them, but I have never dropped over $100 on running shoes. Just want some opinions on them. Are they good or is it all hype.? I am a forefoot striker and find the big heals on my brooks st racer a bit bothersome |

Member 45![]() | Subject: RE: Zoot running shoes? Any users?I've never tried the zoot running shoes but you mentioned that you were a forefoot striker. To me the zoot running shoes look like they have a standard heel and don't really look like they have any specific technology to aide in forefoot strike. Have you ever tried the newton running shoes? I am also a forefoot striker and like them because the lugs aide in allowing your forefoot to sense the ground better, although they are a bit more expensive. |

Regular 58![]() ![]() Atlanta, GA | Subject: RE: Zoot running shoes? Any users?Colby - First as a preface, I am on Team Zoot-GU so you should know that upfront. Second, I am a forefoot striker who has been running with a neuroma on my left foot for the last 2 years. As a result, I no longer am able to use flats when racing. I got the Zoot TTs recently in prep for my 'A' race, a 1/2 where I needed something lighter than my normal training shoe (Asics Nimbus). I purchased them thinking that I would likely have to return them because of a lack of forefoot cushioning. I now have put about 30 miles on the shoes thus far getting them broken in for my race in 2 weeks. I have been exceptionaly pleased with their lightness but most importantly, the combination of their lightness with the forefoot cushioning. Throw in some of the tri "gimmicks" - speed laces, higher heel, drainage holes - and the shoe has been worth every penny paid. Because of the neuroma, I feel like I have a limited number of shoes that will work for racing. The Zoot TT has made the cut, and I am very please with them. That's my $.02. Enjoy! I have never run barefoot as I have soft feet and was have always been scared to get blisters. With the purpose of not having to wear socks I went out and tried them. It was a 4 mile run and felt great. They are light and comfortable. I did end up getting 2 soft spots but I take that more as my feet are not used to running barefoot. I love them either way. |

Any users?I bought a pair from RRS and had to send them back due to blisters - I really wanted to like the shoes, and tried to do a few runs in them, but they just didn't seem to fit my feet - The were light, felt great walking around in them without socks, but, I just couldn't get past three miles in them before they started rubbing big blisters on the arches of my feet -- Still with they would have worked out, but I guess no shoe can be right for every person's foot... |

Extreme Veteran 664![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Vancouver BC | Subject: RE: Zoot running shoes? Any users?I got a pair last week - and stupid me (i know, I know, I have heard it dozens of times) decided to try running in them sockless without having trained in them sockless during my first tri yesterday - it was actually my first time running in the shoes and sockless both! I kept hoping I wouldn't 'be the one' that this backfires on - well it did - huge blisters on the inside arch of both feet - the right one being way worse. This happened by 2km of my 4 km run - not fun! Lesson learned! I am still hoping they workout for me though because they felt great in every other way - and made transition a snap! I am going to try weaning them into my running schedule again after my blisters have healed. Edited by couch potato no more 2008-05-25 4:49 PM |

I just got these, and like everyone else, was hoping to love them. I went for my first run this afternoon (easy 4 miler) and have blisters on both arches. Looking at the inside of the shoe I don't understand how you WOULDN'T get a blister there - the foot bed insert thing has an edge! Do you eventually get used to the rubbing, and stop getting a blister? Is the shoe too small? I spent a long time with the sales person finding my size - they were quite adamant that the shoe should fit snugly. It's not too tight - it feels fine on, and my toes aren't jammed up against the front or anything. Perhaps do I need to actually tighten it more? I'll be calling Fast Splits (where I bought it) to get their opinion as well, but I'm wondering if anyone else who initially had the arch blister problem figured out a solution and ended up liking these. |

Any users?I've been waiting patiently for Zoot to get them back in stock on their website and even though it says 6/16 they still aren't in. I would get them from somewhere else but with the Team discount it would be throwing away money to get them from another place. Luckily I wasn't going to use them at LP, but I would still like a pair for other races. Grrrrrrrr. |

I think I'm successfully past the blister stage (although I never really had one), I typically race sockless in racing flats with Yankz in them, so I guess I was a little prepared. I've taken my Zoot's out on a 6 miler and felt great. I also ran through a rainstorm in them and they were incredible, the drainage worked like a dream and the shoes barely absorbed any water. I've only worn them for a sprint tri as far as races go, but they were great. I'm still on the fence about wearing them for my HIM in July, I guess I'll see how they feel on a longer training run. |

Any users?I bought a pair last weekend and will be trying them on a training run this weekend in prep for a sprint next week. with all the blisters people report I think I will body glide my arches.... I got them because of the drainage holes and the way the tongue/speed laces are. My intent is to use them for sprint and olympic distance this summer. All I know is that I need something with drainage! At Mooseman, with all the water I was pouring over my head and was being hosed with my shoes were very squishy by the end of the first loop and at the end of 13 miles weighed a LOT!!! Given that racing flats supposedly can save you 5 seconds per mile I can only imagine how much time my waterlogged Nikes added per mile! and racing flats supposedly do not really need to be broken in - I know that was true about my other racing flats (no drainage holes) |

I have been running sockless for all my runs for a few years now. i started running in the zoots two months ago, and these are my thoughts on it: i did get the blisters on my arches (or lack of them). i popped them and it hardened up and is now fine up to 13 miles so far. the heal tab on one pair rubbed my heal, didnt on the other pair. if it does just twist it around for 10 or 15 min the way you would a new baseball glove. baby powder in the shoes for races/first few sockless runs helps a lot. these shoes are actually a joy to run in soaking wet. i had a half ironman last weekend in the pouring rain, and the shoes felt great. just like any other shoe you can get blisters at first, more so if you are not used to running sockless. get passed them and the shoes are awesome if they fit you. i have had more blister issues from them being too tight than too loose. |

Extreme Veteran 664![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Vancouver BC | Subject: RE: Zoot running shoes? Any users?I wore them again on my second race (with socks this time though as I hadn't made any effort into 'weaning' into sockless running since my first/last race) and with socks they felt really good. They went on so easily with socks too - during my first race I did struggle a bit to get them with sweaty feet! I haven't given up on running with them sockless though - but I am going to take it slow. |

Regular 58![]() ![]() Atlanta, GA | Subject: RE: Zoot running shoes? Any users?Follow-up post, post-race. Did EagleMan a couple of weeks ago. Very hot conditions, so there was plenty of tossing water over the head, ice in the suit activities that lead to some "wet" running conditions. Shoes performed great. I have to wear socks to keep the toe spacer in my left foot in place, so I can't attest to running w/o socks. In short, great shoes for my needs. Matthew http://www.enduright.com |

How true. There's nothing worse than dropping $100 (or more) on a pair of running shoes and find that they don't work!!! I have just tried on a pair of the Zoots and had trouble getting them on and off. Once they were on they felt fine but I went with a pair of PI Streaks instead with Lace Locks. |

Regular 176![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Winchester, MA | Subject: RE: Zoot running shoes? Any users?Ok, you guys have me thinking I should give them a bit more time. I'll also call Fast Splits and see if they recommend me trying a larger size (I sized down a 1/2 size based on the recommendations of the employee I was working with when I bought them) - I did originally get arch blisters from the Nike Frees and going up 1/2 a size was the answer. I really want these to work - I am also a big fan of the head-dousing during a race and at Mooseman by the end my shoes were a sopping, squishy mess. |

These shoes work great for me. I am used to running barefoot and they are doing well with this. Also have worn them with socks- same result. They perform very well over my usual 7-14 mile runs. Haven't been on anything over 14 miles yet, though. I am planning to use them in IM Arizona so can give an update at this distance in race conditions. |

I run in Saucony size 11's normally. The Zoots fit perfectly and I've run one race in them without socks and two with. Have not had any real issues at all with them and love the way they feel. Not too mention the ease of getting them on and off (my last two tri's turned into du's so I had to take them off and put them on in the races). |
