![]() It's one thing to be egotistical enough to believe that every male you relate to on any level wants to sleep with you. It's an entirely different level of egotism and projection to believe that all males everywhere want to sleep with all the females. This is a lot like the people who believe the gov't is snooping on them, "What in the hell makes you believe you're important enough that they care?" Same thing here. |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() such an odd conclusion to draw...such an odd article. i think she's really digging. and i've spent my entire professional career in manufacturing, almost always the only young person/female in the department, and while there certainly have been my share of guys behaving inappropriately or petty gossip about me sleeping with everyone in the plant, never have i felt that my bosses interpret me working extra hours as me trying to sleep with them. how bizarre. |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() First off, it's not her saying that all men want to sleep with her -- what's it's saying is that a study showed that the bulk of males want to sleep with their platonic female friends and based on that she's asserting that stresses work relationships. I completely disagree with her assertion. Yes, we're just big dumb animals of the male variety but some of us, surprisingly, are capable of thinking with our brains and not our penises. To say that `every male boss will discount your hard work because he wants to sleep with your or believes you want to sleep with him' is utter BS. It does happen, yes. My guess is not often. I just see this as an excuse as to why someone didn't get promoted at some point in her career: `I WOULD BE president of the company right now if not for that male boss who wouldn't promote me! Oh and the fact that I was late everyday and couldn't figure out how to put the new cover sheets on my TPS reports.' |

Of course not - some men are gay!
OK, seriously, the article shows the basic flaw in a lot of lay reporting of scientific studies and makes outrageous generalizations unsupported by the data. At the most superficial reading of the article, without even going to the source articles, the studies are about "emergent adults" - people in their 20's - who are struggling with basic issues of identity and beginning the Ericsonian task as well of relationships in general (Intimacy versus Isolation). Most bosses are well past this stage, and into the Generativity versus Stagnation phase. Meaning they are mostly settled into their roles (except for those that are in the midst of Stagnation - aka "mid life crisis" - and might be trying to re-do earlier life stages). In my job, I often work closely with medical students, psychology interns, and other young (to me) women (as well as men, but that is besides the point). I don't think "I bet she would sleep with me". I think "is she making progress here?" and sometimes "Hey, she's the same age as my kids. Oh no, I am old!". I will go out on a limb and guess the author is also a young woman in her 20's and struggling to understand relationships herself. Hence, she is prone to misreading the findings of the study. Her conclusions have all the rigor of whatever cover story is on Cosmo or Glamour this month ("Is he into you? 10 Ways to know for sure!") Edited by gearboy 2012-07-31 9:45 AM |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() First Forbes says Houston and Ft. Worth are cooler than Austin and now they say that 20 something males represent all male attitudes. They have become no better than the National Enquirer as far as factual articles (said somewhat sarcastically). Edit to add that on a personal experience note, I am a 45 year old self employed guy who has 2 employees (amongst the 14 employees that I have) who are 21 year old, attractive women of whom I have no desire to sleep with and I am quite sure they have no desire to sleep with me. I'm older than the parents of one of them and the same age as the parents fo the other. Edited by Hugh in TX 2012-07-31 10:06 AM |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I think there is a huge assumption in her flawed article Most guys (the red blooded male) will look at a girl, stranger, coworker, friends mom, etc. and think "yeah....I'd hit that". We all do. It's a part of life. But that's as far as that goes. What she's assuming is that based on the study of 80 dudes that guys will take the "yeah, I'd hit that" attitude and conform that into a "she wants all of this" attitude. Then she plays "what if" and takes it into the workplace. Maybe I know better, maybe I'm not typical....but I know that I'm not very attractive and I'm border line rah-tard....and that has either made my way of thinking the way it is....or I've matured (somewhat) to know better that not all women want to get all up on this. |

![]() What makes this article even funnier to me is the more a lady thinks what she's saying, the less attractive they seem to be to me. I wonder if the stats would change if they threw in a few >40 year old divorced guys and asked them about it all ![]() |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() What a weird article and direction the author took. I wanted to sleep with every girl I was friends with. I never was under the illusion they wanted to sleep with me. Hoping that and thinking that are two different things. Now I am older and married and I don't have those same type relationships as I did growing up and twenty something. The author states... that guys in their late 20s (and, increasingly, early 30s) are incapable of respecting platonic relationships.. OK hold on. I respected all my female friends and valued our friendship and never did anything stupid to "disrespect" that relationship. It was just in the back of my mind. And Early 30??? OK you have other problems then... But then to go on from there and conclude all men want to sleep with all women and can understand the difference between romantic, plutonic, and co-worker relationships... ya, you lost me there. |

Or some other check-out stand rag. I thought the same thing. What's this doing on Forbes??? I can certainly remember a time in my life when I was younger that any girl who talked to me "wanted to sleep with me", so I could potentially see where the demographic survey'd could give skewed results like that. However, as others have said it's a huge leap to take that attitude and apply it to all men. /facepalm |
