Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() So I finished the ride and slowly cruising home I had to cross the sidewalk and get on the street. The kerb at that point is about 1 foot high and you have to stop, unclip and walk the bike down to the street or, just ride on the sidewalk to the next street with the ramp. So first I wanted to ride on the sidewalk, but when I saw some people walking their dogs on it, I made a decision in the last second to go on the street. Bike comes to a complete stop on top of the kerb, I try to unclip and BAM! Fell off the high kerb with the bike on the street. Got up, examined te bike first, it seemed fine, a guy walking his dog asked if I was OK, I said I'm fine thanks... What happened next was like a scene from 'Dumb and dumber': I get on the bike, the chain fell off, foot didn't clip in and as I looked down to see wtf is going on - BAM! Rammed into a parked car... The guy looked at me again and asked: man, are you sure you're OK? The end. Yes, I'm going to start shaving my legs now. |

Thats my kind of luck ![]() |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Ouch. Please go put a bandaid on that leg. Ick! And, Welcome to the Club!! My club name is Grace, for my gracefulness and etiquette (try to always keep my pinky up as I am going down) during a fall. I am thinking Double Dipper for your club name, unless someone has other suggestions. Edited by jogo 2009-08-22 12:18 PM |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() dude no way on the band aid. put some neosporin on it and leave it open, it will heal a lot faster and your leg will thank you for not haing to rip that off (which will more than likely take the scab with it). nice job, i just laughed otu loud. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() "I have seen a lot of things in my life; But that was AWESOME. Sorry about your car though"-Tommy Boy. That is a great story. I hope you didn't mangle your bike. I too have joined the club, too many times to mention, and not once yet because of clips. I am just THAT good. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Thank you for your sympathy guys! The knee seems to work (hopefully enough to do an Oly next weekend) and bike didn't get a scratch. In the back of my mind I'm considering going back to toe clips (just kidding...). |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Does it count if your do this with toe cages, or does it have to be clips? The first day I got the cages I rode home from the LBS with them I on everything went great untill I got to the Hill before my driveway. Long story short I got halfway up the hill and was going to slow to make it, I went to take my foot out of the cage and ended up flat on my back with the bike still attached straight up in the air. The complete indignity came when the kids (5-8 years old) on single speed bikes drove by. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() For toe clips you should get honorary membership. That is extra special. |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() was slowly going going closer to the front of the lane at a traffic light, wind was blowing, both feet clipped in , gust of wind, lost my balance and there I was, eating tar, Only thing damaged was my dignity, and a little bit of knee |
![]() ![]() |
Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I was standing still, clipped my left foot in then promptly lost my balance and crashed. Worse than the pain in my arm from landing on it was the pain of having a three year old point and laugh while announcing to his dad that the lady fell off her bike. |

Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I joined the club earlier this year right outside work when I was barely moving as I clipped the wrong foot in without realising...not cool! |

Extreme Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Does it count if you join the club while riding on grass, or must one eat some pavement? I was practicing in the parking lot behind my house, and decided that I would rather go on the grassy lawn next to the lot in case I couldn't get my foot down in time. I neglected to take into account the larger forces required to propel a bike across uneven, grassy terrain as compared with a smooth parking lot. I clipped in on one side, but the bike was in too high of a gear to pedal minorly uphill and through unmowed grass, so I completed about 1/4 of a revolution and promptly fell on my side, in front of my husband and a random passerby walking his aged dog. I swear even the dog was laughing. As I fell, I could feel that one leg went way up in the air while the other remained attached to my bike... I STILL have a tangerine-sized bruise on the inside of my knee, and I did this like 10 days ago. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I renewed my membership this weekend unfortunately after 5 years of riding without a fall from not unclipping. It happened at a rest stop on a group ride so I had an plenty of witness. As I came to a stop I could not get my right foot unclipped(the one I always unclip) in time no matter how hard I tried and down I went. The reason I couldn't unclip was one of the screws that held the cleat was missing. The cleat wouldn't move no matter how much I twisted my foot. I had to remind my self to unclip my left foot for the east of the ride. When I got home I replaced the screw and checked all the rest of them on the cleats to make sure they were secure. The scrape (soon to be a scar) on my knee will remind me to check those screws frequently before I put my soes on for a ride. |

Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Do we get swag for joining...bike jersey perhaps....a subscription to "skinned knees monthly"?? I was riding on Sunday....brand new clipless installed....managed to get through 3/4 of an 18 mile ride and a dropped chain without injury........until the HILL.....being new and a pudgy girl....and 3/4 of the way through that aforementioned ride....I geared down and pedaled for my very life.....which got me halfway up the hill. Simultaneously as it occurred to me to try to get my feet out, my good friend Momentum had left the building. The last thought I had before I hit the ground ...."this is gonna leave a mark" ![]() Was riding on a bike trail with about a 4 inch drop off the side...fortunately into sandy dirt ,though I was wondering how it managed to get into my bike shorts later.... The friend I was riding with had zipped up the hill and turned around just in time to see me gracefully trying a sweeet barrel roll. I will say that I might have laid there and milked the injury a bit but I was quickly aided by several people who appeared to be distressed by the sight of me hitting the dirt. Fortunately I had gloves on so no hand scrapage....just a nasty skinned knee and a bruised ego. I did get up and finish the ride tho...no tears either! ![]() Carole |
