Does anyone know where I can find accurate information about how fast each Ironman race sells/sold out?

Does anyone happen to know how fast Ironman Wisconsin sells out on average?

I have not been able to find anywhere where it says anything exactly as it seems they change year to year and new ones are added etc. seems as though halfs sell out a lot slower due to more availability im sure. Full ones I tried to just search open dates and look for threads or posts that talk about them being sold out. sorry not much help hopefully someone has more info

It definitely changes from year to year.  When I signed up for Wisconsin in '08 (for '09) it sold out in about 15 minutes.

You've found the most informative source.  BT

I signed up for IMWI last september the monday after the race and they had spots for 1 or 2 hours before it sold out.  In the past I've heard that they sold out within 10-15 minutes.  So it depends on the year and the race.

Does anyone know why that is? I'm considering doing Louisville in 2013, I'm just not sure why it's so unpopular!

It DOES make the decision to sign up a little easier though - got some time to get through my HIM in October and still sign up for next year.

Lots of threads on this subject.
The most popular reasons are the heat + humidity and non-wetsuit, time trial start swim.

Although wasn't even IMLP open for a few hours this year?  I think NYC and Mont Tremblant helped out a lot.  I am planning to register for IMWI, so we'll see!  Be ready sept 10th.

A non-wetsuit swim? Oh the horror!...

thanks for the response though - I figured it had something to do with the heat after looking at the race reports.

To add to the list.  I tried to sign up online for IM Florida last year.  Hit the send button about 18 minutes after it opened and just missed.

I had it noted in my logs that IMMOO was still open after 8 pm last year on the Monday after the race.  But as noted it use to fill up much quicker then that.

No kidding. I find it a little odd that people are willing to bust their butts through training to do everything it takes to complete an Ironman yet still cling to their wetsuit like a security blanket. I would expect people to find enough self confidence during the many months of hard work to finally take the training wheels off in the water.

Another reason IMKY has issues selling out is that the swim is in the Ohio river - which doesnt really have a great rep as a clean body of water - and you swim up stream for the first part. I think they sold out last week for 2012.

IMTX is usually slower to fill because it is in May - which means most of the country would have to train for it during the winter months.

I raced IMWI in 2011. Volunteered in 2010 and stood in line to sign up the next morning. I know that year it was open for an hour or so once all the volunteers and on site people had signed up, but I would venture to say that over half the spots - maybe as many as 3/4 - went to volunteers.

As others have said, if you have a race you want to sign up for and you are unable to volunteer the year before, you need to be sitting on your computer ready to sign up the minute it opens.

Nobody's mentioned IMCoz yet. It's in November and it's STILL open for this year.

All the reviews I've read say it's a great race. Anyone know why it's so slow to sell out?? I mean, I'm super thankful because it's my chance to still do an IM this year after my training got derailed, but I'm scratching my head about it.

IMCoz is slow to sell out because it is a pain to get to and expensive to stay at, as it is on a small island.

ALso, I have heard the bike is dead flat but windy. so you basically never get to coast - you have to work the entire 112 miles.

I have heard the swim is awesome though!!!

All of this is true. I also think that if you live in the north it's challenging to train that late in the year. Days are shorter, it's colder, and if you're like me in Chicago everyone has transitioned to MTB / Cyclocross and off their TT bikes.I thought IM Coz was great and wouldnt hesitate to do it again if I needed a race that time of the year.

Depends. The weather is so variable in Ohio that it may not be too much colder than Coz in November. Or, we could get a blizzard. Actually, I'm finding myself thankful that I'm not training for a September IM (my plan A) because July and August are horrible times to be doing long runs and rides. The summer humidity here is much worse than anything in the Caribbean, in my experience. September and October are much better for training.
