Carvel Ice Cream cake

AbbieR - 2013-03-13 12:59 PM Today is my birthday and I'm soooo craving a piece of Carvel ice cream cake!  Some of the grocery stores in CA have them, but it's not as good.  I grew up on these in NJ for every family birthday.  The amazing chocolate crunchies....YUM!!!  Anyone else love these?  Or maybe you are a Fudgey the Whale fan instead?

I am a closet Carvel Ice Cream Cake lover.  Until I discovered cheesecake I always always always asked for Carvel ice cream cake! :D

I have bought the mini ones from the grocery store and eaten them over a couple of days. :D

I think they are pretty darn close to "the real thing" but maybe I'm just crazy.  Sometimes I think the frosting tastes a bit different from the original but otherwise...yumyum!

What, no Love for Fudgie the Whale?

We have a Carvel ice cream store here and it was always the place to get ice cream and ice cream cakes growing up. It had two big ice cream cones on the building, very 1960's cool. The cones got blown off in one of the hurricanes we had, and the neighborhood association took up a collection to get them repaired after an article in the newspaper said the insurance declined to cover the damage.

The cones are back up and as cool as ever.

Happy birthday!

There are some grocery stores here in PA that have a little freezer with some Carvel ice cream cakes in them. There are DQ's everywhere, but my SIL makes the best ice cream cakes. My husband has a large family and there is a birthday party almost every month with an ice cream cake. If you're ever in PA stop by and you can have cake with us.
