Subject: Blackberry Storm or the iPhone?

I'm in the market for a new phone.   I really like the BB Storm and it just came out yesterday,  but I have heard good things about the iPhone as well.   So, which one is the better phone?

Great thread (for me). I have to make the exact same decision very soon. Can't wait to read opinions!

I've had the iPhone for over well over 1 yr (1st gen).  Best buddy bought the Storm yesterday.

1st impression (only played with the Storm for about 1/2 hr) -

I'm no techno geek.  I was impressed with the Storm.  The screen is clear and the video we watched on it was vibrant and downloaded quick.  I am sure the utility of the Blackberry is great as a work application.

What I did not like about it was learning curve.  The Storm is not intuitive.  We were too lazy to get the manual out and really struggled navigating through/activating many of the apps.

I'm sure it is mostly apples/oranges or pepsi/coke.

I just got my iphone last week and love it.  It's amazingly fast compared to my old moto Q phone and so easy to use.  There are two reasons I didn't hold out for the storm...

1. No wifi on it which means you are using your data usage on the cellular network at all times which could put you over your limit depending on what you are doing with it.

2. Itunes Applications - there are so many useful utilities and some fun games available for free or very cheap.

Just my 2 cents

I am an Apple guy, we have 3 or 4 Apple laptops, many ipods, I own Apple stock, and I ABSOLUTELY HATE my iphone. I am a General Manager of an Automotive supplier, and my customers make fun of my terrible phone.

I have gone through three phones, and two chips, all have failed to help.

The ATT service is beyond bad...I cannot wait until I can get another phone and service.

Please note, everything else that the phone does is amazing, too bad the PHONE part of the Iphone is unacceptable.

Sorry to be such a Scrooge but this really is an un-Apple like device.

Regards,

Tom

Having owned a 1st gen iPhone, 3G iPhone and now a Blackberry Curve, I'm a little mixed.

Iphone

Pros:
Very cool interface
Fun
Wow Factor
GREAT with multimedia (it's an iPod)
Great web surfing
WiFi

Cons:
It's great at everything EXEPT being a phone. It's mediocre at best.
Keyboard although usable and can be gotten used to, is not great.
Has bluetooth pairing issues
Can be slow with large address book
No MMS

Revolutionary:
Great touch interface
App Store

Blackberry Curve

Pros:
Rock solid. Never crashes (like the iPhone) and always works
GREAT PHONE!
Works great with exchange and blackberry server
MMS
Great and easy camera
Pin messaging with my wife!
NOT ON ATT

Cons:
Multimedia is a little lacking
No touch screen
NO APP STORE

The Blackberry although not as fun, is a much better all around phone IMHO.

Dropped calls, terrible service, just doesn't work.

I will be in the middle of a conversation (with a customer), everything going along fine, and bang. Call gone!

Please note that this happens EVERY DAY, many times a day.

If you need a phone, RUN AWAY.

If you want a very cool toy that you can jiggle to find a restaurant, go for it.

You might also consider the Google/Android phone. It's been getting great reviews, nearly as good as the iPhone and you're not on AT&T's network(Google is on T-Mobile). The price is competitive with the iPhone as well.

I've had my iPhone 3G for about 4 months now.  I used to be a Windows Mobile die hard but since switching I'll never go back.  It's as close to perfect phone as I have ever seen.  Sure it has some odd bugs and there are times I wonder what Apple was thinking but overall I have been very happy.

AT&Ts 3G service is very solid and very fast.  I was weary about AT&Ts service but I hae to admit it has been very good so far.

If you are not in a 3G area however you might want to test it out first.

This is my decision too.  I have a little longer to decide (February).  I'm interested to see the reviews of the Storm.  I'm leaning towards that because I'd like to stay with Verizon.  AT&T doesn't sound like it has very good service in a lot of areas, which makes me less inclined towards the iPhone.

Here's one I can recommend.

People I know who have one love it, and I'm considering replacing my current phone with either this one, or the HTC Touch Pro.

What I've noticed about the copy cat iPhones...

There is no screen play.  You can't make the screen bigger or smaller, or move it around with your finger.

You'll have to pry my iPhone from my cold dead fingers...

It's great. I use the applications on the iPhone more and more each day. No problem with calls here in the Philly area.

I use several Macs both at the studio and at home. So the iPhone syncs up nicely with the other machines.

I'd love a BT iPhone app. That would be great.

I started using OmniFocus as a GTD type task manager on both my desktop and the iPhone. It pricey but it works great.

Also, nobody does email like BB.  My company email won't work well at all with the iPhone.

Why?  What does your company use?  The reason I ask is 99% of IT people will just say "it does not work" because they do not want to be bothered by it.

I'd rather the site be able to handle multi-sport Garmin downloads, if you're setting a priority list.

I had a iphone, went back to the blackberry. the iphone is great, but if you actually use it for a phone or for emailing its just not as cool. the Storm is fun to play with, but I really like the BOLD even better, again, I send between 100-150 emails and text messages a day.
