i am in heaven. finally a radio station that actually plays music i love! almost as good as rev105. right now they're playing luscious jackson. earlier, they were playing etta james. the other day, nick drake, beastie boys, the cure, tribe called quest. new songs that i adore so much that i have been rushing to the radio to write down the musician's name. makes me feel young again! i love the current!!!!!!

Nothing personal, but your taste in music...is great!I assume that's the public radio station, NPR affiliate?

brand spankin' new npr affiliate. this makes there was a wonderful alternative radio station here years ago that played an amazing range of music. it was bought out by another station that eventually turned it into pop top 40 (just like every other station out there). there was some blues/jazz/bluegrass on the classical station, but now it (the classical station) will be strictly classical (which i think is a good thing). in the last 7 years, all i've ONLY listened to classical or news/talk radio (also npr/mpr/bbc). have felt increasingly out of touch with new music, and didn't realize how much music from my pasted i missed hearing. our cd collection covers a lot of ground. hank williams sr. to portishead to bela fleck to yo-yo ma to edith piaf to offenbach to stan getz to they might be giants to the chieftans to ciba matto to digable planets to taj mahal to cocteau twins to ruben gonzalez to django to ween.... a little bit of almost everything. we love music, so i'm overjoyed to be hearing new tunes that i otherwise wouldn't have known about. i swear, the only new music i was exposed to in the last few years was from either friends or films.

Ditto here, it's NPR or sports talk radio here. Most of the new music I hear (that I don't hear or read of and go seek out myself) is from NPR, such programs as World Cafe' and American Roots.

I'm currently listening to THE CURRENT via internet. It's eclectic, that's for sure, all quality stuff!

Nice to hear someone here talk about something other than Linkin Park ;-)

heard karsh kale on world café (or maybe i heard him on the world). great running music. i admit i don't care for the music on most mainstream radio stations, but what really kills me are the advertisements and the obnoxious radio promos. worse than tv ads!

ever listen to prairie home companion? i DON'T, because garrison keillor sings too much. when i lived in oregon though, phc was like a life line to home. and i LOVE the jokes show. actually, we just got the 4 cd set of the joke show. probably not good for running. people will think i'm batty running along laughing to myself.

Sounds like XPN out of Philly. Lots of good music. I can't believe you had Taj Mahal and Cocteau Twins in the same sentence - way cool! I'll have to check it out tonight when I get home.

Oh, how about "Wait, wait, don't tell me!" ? That's a fun show. And "Car Talk." The World Cafe is really good. Wifey and I have a few of those discs.

Wifey's a bigger fan of Taj then I am, but we got to see him last year. I was soooo exhausted from working different shifts all week that I could hardly stay awake. Really. Wifey thought that I hated the show and I couldn't convince her otherwise, so I just played along. *snicker* If she's in my car and I have a Ministry CD in the player, I'll crank it up really loudly and say "That's to make up for the Taj Mahal show." She never seems to laugh as much as I do though...

We also got to see Keb' Mo' - that guy can PLAY!!!! OMG!! And Buddy Guy - he rocks too!! I'm still trying to convince Wifey to tag along to an Ani DiFranco, Ladysmith Black Mambazo or Ottmar Liebert show.

Autumn-

Thanks for the tip!! This station rocks. And it doesn't choke in my dial-up connection. Plus they post all the songs they play so you can go back & find songs you like. I only wish they broadcasted here in Denver. The radio here hurts my ears. My friend turned me on to XPN when she lived in Philly - that's a good station. There is also a good NPR music station in NYC (WFUV) I listen to when I'm home. Its not as diverse though - mostly roots type stuff but all they play on sunday mornings is Irish music. Plus I also like Triple J (Australia's public radio - rock) and GeorgeFM (urban/downbeat in the mornings) over the internet. I'm going to have to completely reassess my opinion of Minnesota now.

glad you like it. its on all the time here now! the classical station used to have a bluegrass show and an irish show, so i'll have to research a bit and figure out when and where they will be playing now. this morning i woke up and heard yet another cover of that amazing joy division song 'love will tear us apart'. i think its the second or third cover of it i've heard on 89.3 in about 48 hours. awesome awesome. i am a happy radio listener.

I heard about this a few weeks ago and have it as a preset in my car. I  like it. I must admit I am extremely unfamiliar with most of the artists, but I love the variety!

Hey Drew,

Can you guys get KRFC in Denver? 88.9 I think. That's a pretty good one.

If you are down with country at all... there is an AMAZING classic country station out of Denver. I loooove it. Unfortunately, I can't get it up here..... We're thinking it's 102 point something.......

if 'car talk' is on, we usually can't leave the house until its over. if its on when we're out during errands, we sit in the car until its over. i don't drive, and even i love click and clack!

So there is more to Minnesota than the movie Fargo. Who knew?

Kim- No we don't get KRFC in Denver. That country station is good and KBCO is better than what else is out there, but I wish we had a station here that could just play whatever they want regardless of ratings. There is a community station in Crested Butte where people from town can get on for an hour or more and just play whatever they feel like. I thought that was the coolest thing.

More shoreline than Florida and California combined...

More bike trails than any other state, including the longest paved bike trail in the world (Hinkley to Duluth - 70 miles)...

Twin Cities Marathon...

A new governor, who actually ran the TCM last year...

Sorry Autumn, my radio dial is a little further to the right, 92.5 most of the day.
