You were represented well today by the four very large men who were not only dressed head to toe in Cubs gear but also rip-roaring drunk and harrassing passers-by in the Loop today at 10 a.m. Again, sh*t-faced drunk at 10 a.m. on a Thursday -- walking next to women making lewd comments and suggestive motions and screaming at one guy `Nice backpack you fu**ing dork.' because the guy had a Sox pack on.

I saw this as I walked to my office to pick up some paperwork before heading back to the CBOT. I was all the way down the block and across the street and I could hear them yelling at people. Um, way to represent guys. I'd be ashamed if I were a Cubs fan.

Goggs - While I do agree with the fact that the behavior was rude and unexcusable.  I do not believe you can generalize and say that every Cub fan acts this way.  That would be like saying that every triathlete acts like you...

Read it again. I didn't say every Cubs fan was doing it. I said Cubs fans were poorly represented by these punks.

I have no reason to be ashamed... Just because a couple of drunk idiots are fans of the same team of me. That would be like saying I should be ashamed of being a guy because they were guys. Or should I be embarrassed because they were white??? I don't really think that logic works...

Maybe not ashamed as much as embarrassed.

There have been times when people who were fans of the same team as I were acting like idiots, and it's embarrassed me. While not representatives of the team, when wearing the garb I contend they are representing the fans of the team, and when they act like that it puts a stigma on all people wearing the same garb. Just my opine.

And yes, I was a little ashamed of our gender right then and there.

While I see your point 2goggs, you really are being unfair in your statement....

As a die hard, loyal, bleeder of Cubbie blue, I can say, no matter what team you cheer for, there are ALWAYS going to be idiots/white trash/punks whatever you want to call them that root for ANY pro sports team.

As long as I don't know them, I don't see how just because I am a fan of the same team they're representing, I need to be "ashamed" or any of that...that's their problem, not mine.

You don't see me making any generalizations about you becuase you choose to race in a 1 piece now do you???

HA!!

That guy works for Full Shilling.  Full Shilling gives out free hot dogs with a purchase of a beer during and after the game.  I live one block west of Full Shilling so I see that guy all the time.

Now I never said `All Cubs fans are bad.' I just know that if someone who roots for the same team as I were acting like that, I'd be ashamed to have any association with them regardless of whether I knew them or not. It's all about self-policing. In Nebraska, where I'm from, it's frowned up to talk sh*t to the opposing team's fans and anybody who does is usually put in their place by other Nebraska fans.

Heck I was at the Bears-Cowboys game a couple years ago (I'm a HUGE Cowboys fan) and some Bears fans were talking smack to a Cowboys fan and other Bears fans stepped in and told them to knock it off. And that's football!!!

Oh well, I guess I just don't get the whole Cubs thing.

GO SOX!!!

(Actually I'm an A's fan but if I had to choose ...)

Oh and our intern just got an awesome assignment -- to go interview the Yankees for a story on the Yankees-Red Sox rivalry. WTF? I never get cool assignments like that. A friend saw one of the Yanks (unsure of who it was) at 900 N. Michigan yesterday with a mob of people trying to get autoraphs and photos. And my current `friend' once made out with Ryan Theriot when they were in high school. And yet I still kiss her. Ew.

First off I'm a Marlins fan, so read at your own risk.

As someone who is new to Chicago and this whole Northside vs. Southside thing, I'll agree in part with Mr. Tony.  I've run into very few sox fans so I can't speak to their overall nature.  I have, however, run into more than my fair share of beligerent a-hole cub fans... Some cool ones too.  But I must say that overall I'm not a fan of Cub fans.

Disclaimer:
I don't live on the north side, more west loop area.  The Switzerland of the Chicago baseball landscape.  I haven't been out to a bar on the southside... Maybe I'll run into a Sox d-bag down there.  I'll check it out.

Meh.  I'm a Sox fan and I was embarrassed when the D'bags ran onto the field and attacked the Royals 1st base coach.

BTW, the entire MLB was stereotyping ALL of Sox fandome for that one.

There are D'bags in EVERY sport and for EVERY team.  And if they happen to support my team, I'm embarrassed when they do crap like that.

Can I control it?  Not a chance.  Still doesn't "represent" well.

Have you ever been to a Red Sox game?  When I was growing up, I was in the bleachers when a guy actually punched out a fan because he was tossing a beach ball around.   And at Foxboro Stadium my dad refused to take me to anymore Pats games because of the drunk fans before the coin toss.   So these "embarassments" are everywhere.  Don't even get me started about when I lived in Philly!

2Goggs, you just made my list.

As for all the other Cubs haters, you all can take a number, and politely kiss my azz.

I say that with MUCH love and MUCH sarcasm.

Being a Cubs fan is even harder than being a triathlete some days...

My brother is a big Cubs fan. Not surprisingly, he goes to about one game a year with one goal: To drink as much as possible before they shut down the taps.

It's OK. I like the Cubs just fine. But I hate being on the train after a Cubs game. It smells of a combination of body odor and stale beer. Of course that's true after any sporting event!
